No, the USB interface cannot power a 3.5" drive.

Maybe these benchmarks can give you a better idea of relative performance.

Looks like the 605e is quite a bit faster in Photoshop.

I'd recommend NASLite ( http://www.serverelements.com/ ). I know you said you're not a "linux guy", but if all you want to do is file serving, it doesn't get any simpler than this. I'm not a linux guy either, but I had this set up in under 10 minutes and it's been running without issue on my company...

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond. The board was delivered on Friday, but I was out of town until Sunday evening. And I've been getting killed at work this week, so I haven't had much time to play with my new toy. Anyway, I finally got Vista installed and updated, so on to your questions. 1...

You probably want to plug it into the CPU fan header. Even though it has 4 pins, it will accept a 3 pin fan as well. You want the fan to ramp up and down with the temp of the CPU. That way, if you are doing something processor intensive, the fan will speed up and keep the processor from overheating.

MB with 3-pin fan speed control
After receiving my second M2NPV-VM with USB port issues (first board's died completely, new board's won't run at USB 2.0 speed) I'm considering dumping this POS for a new MB. I'd like to keep all my other components, which includes a 3-pin CPU fan, so I'm looking for confirmation on whether the foll...

Re: Need Help For Up-Coming PC
What DVD burner matches the front bezel of the Antec SOLO? A Nec? Samsung? Other? I did some searching, it seems that the Samsung goes well... Anybody can help me on that? There are some many shades of black.... I have a Pioneer DVR-112D and a Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0B in my Solo and I can tell ...

You shouldn't have any trouble getting windows re-activated. I've changed motherboards on multiple PCs running XP OEM and never had a problem getting windows activated. They usually just ask you how many PCs you have that copy of windows installed on; you say "just this one", and they give you the a...

I know it's not on your list, but if you want to go real cheap, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is a good choice. I've got the same processor and I'm very happy with mine. Just don't run it at full speed. http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=FAN-AC6PRO&c=fr&pid=46332e98f310beb6f349a78dedbb0fb664e70486...
