Re: PWM fan stuck at max speed, ignores speedfan settings
So the problem seems to have fixed itself, and the fan now responds to speedfan settings. I'm a bit at a loss, since all I really did was change the PWM mode in Advanced to "temperature", then back to "manual". It has been on manual this whole time. Initially this didn't do anything, but a few days ...

Re: PWM fan stuck at max speed, ignores speedfan settings
Sorry guys, got busy for the past week. Mats: Yeah, I've checked the speedfan settings and as far as I know I've set everything to what it should be. I have another PC that has speedfan controlling the fan properly. lodestar: Haven't tried MSI overclocking software. Not even sure if it's compatible ...

PWM fan stuck at max speed, ignores speedfan settings
Has anyone encountered this problem? I'm not sure what's wrong with my system. It's an old file server running an MSI G41M-E43. I have a Slip Stream PWM fan plugged into the pwm fan header, but the fan just runs at max speed regardless of what settings I have in speedfan. I've disabled all forms of ...

Re: SilverStone Precision PS07: Budget MicroATX Tower
I suspect the poor performance has to do with those intake fans. I think most golf ball blade fans don't really perform very well? It's important to note that other than the front bezel design, this case is exactly the same as the TJ08-E. Multiple times this SPCR review referenced how it's a deeper ...

Re: Best Case for the Inevitable GTX 680
Some new developments: The GTX 680 uses less power (and outputs less heat) than anticipated, reducing the cooling requirements. I discovered a new case: the Silverstone SG04-F . In terms of volume, this is the smallest Micro ATX case that has two 120mm fans and can accommodate a 10.5" GPU (or two)....

Re: Warning to all SPCR members: do not buy the WD10EALX
I thought Seagate also dropped AAM support as well. Just about the only manufacturer I haven't heard about removing AAM support is Hitachi GST, which was recently sold to WD I think? If all of this is true, it means no AAM for anyone. Time to build that separate data storage server and relocate it t...

Current 80mm fan suggestions?
I have an ancient Cooler Master ball bearing MGT8012MC fan I'd like to replace, but not a lot of people talk about 80mm fans anymore. Anyone have experience and can make some suggestions? I'm looking at ~2500 rpm. I haven't the slightest idea which 80mm fans have good sound character, other than jus...

Re: Piece chipped off hard drive PCB: RMA or not?
Well I successfully copied 600+ GB of video to it (it is a 1TB Hitachi hdt721010sla360; not sure on that model number though) while it was stuffed into a small 4-bay external unit. Temperatures reached mid 40's, but it looks alright. I still need to completely verify data integrity, but a couple fol...

Re: Piece chipped off hard drive PCB: RMA or not?
It may be obvious to you that is a ceramic capacitor (and I don't doubt that), but the first responder claimed it was a resistor. But none of you know what it is used for and whether it is critical to the use of the drive. Just knowing it is a capacitor provides little or no important information t...

Do you seriously expect someone on this forum to know that? No, not entirely. But people from this forum have shown to be very knowledgeable so I figure I might as well ask anyway. What's with your snarky tone? Your post doesn't even add anything meaningful to thread. I agree with Mr. Evil: It is a...

Just a minor rant here, and not particularly direct at this review, but is anyone else annoyed by the over-emphasis of natural convection? I was taught in all my fluids and heat transfer classes that any time you have forced convection in a system, you can pretty much ignore the effect of natural co...

If you're still accepting samples I may have a Corsair Builder CX430 (v1) that has pretty bad coil whine when plugged in with the system off. As far as I know, the more recent V2 also has the same problem.

For what definition of smallest? Lowest volume? Lowest weigth? Lowest footprint? Lowest width? Lowest depth? :p Smallest volume. Why not? There are rather good full-featured Mini-ITX mainboards and not all Mini-ITX cases are designed for miniature systems. Because I plan on overclocking and using a...

Re: Some questions regarding the Silverstone TJ-08E
I own the TJ-08E as well and I'd like to echo Abula's statement that the front 180mm fan is too loud for me, even on the low setting. Adding a 7v resistor helped a bit, but it's still not as quiet as my P180 machine as I need to have the fan set to "high" to get enough voltage to spin up! The resist...

Re: Where did all the air-coolers go?
I've noticed this trend as well. Considering how expensive these huge air coolers were, I'm pretty sure they didn't sell as well as the alternatives. These days it seems like the popular items that sell well are cheap but highly effective coolers like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 models or the closed...

Re: What is the smallest full-featured m-atx case?
Thanks for the suggestions guys, but a lot of the smaller cases use proprietary PSU form factors or have space restrictions that prevent the use of common tower CPU heatsinks. Or both. I'd really like to stick with standard parts as much as possible for compatibility. The Fractal Mini has great feat...

What is the smallest full-featured m-atx case?
I'm looking into upgrading my main system later this year when Ivy Bridge comes out. I've been using a P180 for the past 4 years, but I'm thinking of downsizing for my next build. The design choices focusing on silence is great, but I've found I simply don't need the space. My new system is going to...

Do you still sell the DC-DC psu itself? I see you still have ebay listings up in your ebay profile. Also, do you happen to have an adapter to accept laptop barrel connectors (like the one on the pico-psu)?

Re: PSU on top: why?
His third graphics card essentially sits on top of the PSU intake fan. You'd put the PSU intake at the bottom, not at the top. Then the PSU's thermal effect on the rest of the system is really no different from having the PSU on top with the intake at the top of the case. Then PSU placement really ...

Re: PSU on top: why?
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that the optical drive bays are typically placed at the top front of the case. Putting the PSU at the top makes use of the dead space behind these optical bays and allows a more direct front-to-back airflow. Add me to the camp of people who aren't entirely...

Aside from the cost, most of the changes seem to be pretty good. I don't understand all of the complaints on the first page. Re: Case size comparison chart
Excellent idea. Physical size is something that I find is typically overlooked when people compare cases. Especially on other sites, it seems like people generally prefer bigger cases. Every time someone reviews a compact case the first complaint is how cramped it is. Conversely, they also tend to p...

It looks like with the current state of the market, the most cost-effective method to achiev...
