Re: hyper-v recommendation
Im planning to build a server for home use running Hyper-V with a couple of hosts. Did you have any trouble setting up hyper-v or would you recommend your cpu + mb combo for this? I had no issues setting it up. Just remember that Intels cheaper CPUs don't always have hardware virtualization (neithe...

These could well be competitive with the C2D 45nm quads, i doubt they'll be a match for the i7's, but then they are in a completely difference price range. You can take one of these phenoms and slot it into a £50 mobo with cheap DDR2 ram if you wanted. Good news for people with AM2+ boards who fan...

It seems cold bug is gone and AMD just might be back in the OC game as well: Phenom II @5+GHz running Crysis.

Quad core CPU:s at 2.3-2.7GHz with a TDP of 55W? Sounds great to me:) Oh, and I found this slightly amusing, though:) Note: The line for Harpertown four DIMMs is dotted in the above graphs because we did not actually run this configuration but speculate this is the power consumption based on idle p...

Did you measure with a powermeter or by software? If by software then those readings might be off somewhat...Confucius wrote: My only concern is that the power ratings are not as solid as I would like. Currently, at idle I am getting 12.95 on the 12v line, 5.54v on the 5v, and a flat 3.30 on the 3.3v.

Yeah, AMD has done a good job so far. But I strongly doubt, that an Phenom X4 920 will be even close to the Core i7 920 in terms of performance. Perhaps in watts, lol, but not in computing power. Yeah, uh... AMD's got a little ground to make up. Even if you ignore clockspeed, the 9950 is abou...

It is just as much confusing as Intel using 9xx for i7 (Pentium D anyone?).speedkar9 wrote:I wonder why they chose to use a 9xx naming scheme... kinda seems a little too familiar (i7 anyone?). This is going to cause massive confusion on the consumer level.

You also have to remember that 95w TDP includes the memory controller which was typically on the northbridge. Which is on par with current Core 2 Duo's if you add in the power dissipation of the memory controller currently residing on the northbridge. This is what people usually forget when they co...

Re: Post Your Workstation
I'd like to see some pics of everyone's (silent) computers in their (silent!) workstation environments. Mostly for inspiration, I suppose. Unfortunately as a college student with only a laptop, I don't have any pics to post at the moment. Perhaps someone else could start us off with some pictures? ...

As I mentioned in the thread I referred to, my server measured around 65 watts of power consumption so high power consumption should not be a problem. The whole system runs very cool, but it still makes a bit noise (only a bit). Stopping the case fan and/or the cpu fan doesn't make a difference so I...

Decided to get rid of the gaming rig and build a file server and buy another laptop to replace it. - component list updated and moved to the end of the post - I am not completely satisfied with the quietness of the setup, it is pretty quiet but not silent (which is what I wanted). Seems adjusting th...

Yeah, I had purchased one and found the fan to be anything but "Silent." Yeah, it doesn't quite live up to it's name. Ended up getting an Enermax Modu82+ 625w PSU. I gave up on the spaghetti mess of cables the PC P&C had. Been considering the Enermax or a Corsair HX620 myself too. Also been waiting...

That's a PC Power&Cooling 750w PSU, right? How does the fan sound to you on it? That is correct. Well, it is not completely silent, but it is quieter than the GTX260 so it does not matter that much. I can hear the fan if I stop the fan on the graphics card, but the noise it makes is not at all irri...

P182. Again.
Nothing special compared to my previous build , so just a single pic of the new setup. Really didn't get the HD4870 adjusted to my liking (the constant change of rpm just did not suit me) so changed that to a GTX260 along with the mobo for a Asus P5N-T Deluxe and CPU to an Intel Xeon X3220. Cabling ...
