Re: Certified Silent Puget Serenity Pro
That's one of the things I enjoy most about Puget Systems -- we're not trying to hide behind "proprietary information" to keep ourselves in business. What we do is the result of good old fashioned hard work, and LOTS of time perfecting our trade. We embrace the enthusiast and DIY community. We're a...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
I see what you are saying now, you want double the performance but on a budget; you’ll just have to wait for another 1 to 3 years then I guess. SB gives double the performance of your Q6600 according to Anandtech and at stock speeds at least for the i7. Right, for everything non-work related my Q66...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
Plus effortless overclocking to 4.4GHz or more and it will easily be more than twice as good as a Q6600. That sounds really nice ... all I'm saying is that for me, to pay for more tech these days, I want a doubling of performance / features. I want to feel it, for it to be life changing. When I wen...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
If you mean doubling, I think sandy bridge at 4ghz is probably going to be at least double the speed of a Q6600. GHZ doesn't matter so much now and I highly doubt sandy bridge will ever hit 5ghz even in turbo unless overclocked. When doing math calculations I'm afraid the GHz does matter. Like I sa...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
I appreciate the break down ... I'm running a Q6600 2.4Ghz system, I will upgrade when 5Ghz systems come out. I don't move until a doubling of tech has been made available.

Re: WD20EARS or WD20EADS? What about seagate's 2tb drive?
Just an update on the problems I was having... the reason the WD20EARS went offline was because of a bizarre conflict when using the ICH9R (or ICH7R, ICH8R) chipset with an onboard Marvell Yukon 88E8056 nic. I had to update the onboard ROM to REV4 and things started to permanently work right. All th...

Re: how to move to ssd
Don't clone unless you've setup the partition using Diskpart manually first AND if your cloning program will not realign what Diskpart does. Here is what it took for me using an old version of Ghost: Install without 100MB partition and SSD Alignment --------------------------------------------------...

Re: Intel X25-V G2 40GB SSD
I've got the X25-V 40GB in a Thinkpad, runs so fast now, and in a Quad PC I've got the X25-M 80GB. Runs sweet, both have Windows 7 x64 PRO installed. Properly configured Windows 7 only takes up 8GB of space.

Re: Re:
Let us know if your other one, or if your warranty replacement, also crashes! Any idea on cause? Well, after taking the drive out, fiddling with cables, the drive now works! I've ran WD LifeGuard tools and all checks out well. It think it may have been a bad cable or bad driver combo. Intel just up...

Well, one of them just crashed... I guess the $99 for a 2TB drive is a bit of a catch huh?pcunite wrote:I just bought two of the WD20EARS 2TB 64mb Cache drives. How are they working for everyone else?

Re: New high density 2-and-3 TB Greens from WD
Bought two of these WD20EARS 2TB drives. Love 'em, they seem fairly quick as well, faster than a 500GB 7200RPM drive I had. A couple things I had to do to make my system stable and a few extra things I did, however. * Update Asus P5K-E bios to version 1305 * Insert 2GB of ram or less to be able run ...

Sonic, Thank you so much for this. I too have a similar system: Intel Q6600 with stock fan Asus P5K-E EVGA 8800GT 512mb Corsair HX520W Antec P180B The CPU fan was very loud. After your post I adjusted Q-Fan and the stock fan is nice and quiet! Asus Q-Fan page: http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/...

Antec P180 front USB port Static Charge causes reboot.
When I plug in a USB device to the front of the Antec P180B v1.1 case there is sometimes a static spark that causes the comptuer to reboot. If I touch something metal first everything is fine. Anyone else having this issue.

When choosing a board you first need to consider if you want an ECC memory based system. The 975x and x38 are the only two chipsets that can provide this. Then only if the manufacture implements it. I recommend the following two boards (don't update the BIOS for them use the shipping bios and you wi...

Static dampening not noise.
I want to place my computer case (Antec P180B) on a mat to keep it off the carpet. I have very thick carpet and a great deal of static electricity. Also it would be nice to have the PC more level. What I envision is something rubber like that keep static electricity at bay. Any thing like this out t...
