Re: Vibration via cable (WD Scorpio Black 2.5")
Bracket means cage. The most annoying part is that one day it might not make any noise and the next it does because some cable got moved 0.5 mm ;-). There is very little room between the caddy and the cage (bracket) so you have something like -------------------- | | | |--------------| | | | -------...

Vibration via cable (WD Scorpio Black 2.5")
So I have this 7200 rpm 2.5" Scorpio Black HDD. It is attached to a caddy that normally slides without any rubbers into a bracket but I took some none-elastic cord and at least hung the thing without direct fixed attachment, ie. it hangs from the ropes and that generally is quiet enough to not pass ...

Re: Ability to speak on the internet
Yeah. Thanks. This site existed in the days when the web was still normal, and that doesn't have to be more than 10 years ago or even shorter. It started some 4-5 years ago. But I have been locked up somewhere for a year. When in 2014 everything was still fine for me, but I already had the feeling t...

Ability to speak on the internet
I just want to rant a little here. Back in the day all forums used to be functional forums like this. Today, many times not only has the software been "upgraded" to something non-functional (new visual styles that are very hard to use) but also in many places freedom of speech has gone by the waysid...

Thank you for your reply.
I don't have a computer I can turn off so that the monitor will also go off, that is all. This monitor, I turn it off in isolation and also it goes into standby in isolation.

Re: building standbykiller from older AC/switch device
I am trying to create an electrical diagram of what I know, so bear with me... I will edit this post to include the image later okay. So I created like two schematics thus far. The problem is that I want to use a capacitor to delay the activation of the circuit, but because of the high resistances i...

building standbykiller from older AC/switch device
So I am trying to create a digital circuit for a certain standby-killer purpose. This is a Goobay wireless AC switch: http://www.xen.dds.nl/f/i/transparents/1-voudige-standby-killer-goobay.png I won't show the remote, too much trouble. The idea is two of these things on top of each other. The regula...

KVM from 2x to 2x.
This is just a bit of an ugly picture of my (future) KVM setup. http://www.xen.dds.nl/f/i/diagrams/cubiq-setup_expanded_new.png Normally KVM is connecting one monitor and set of input devices to two computers. In my case I want one computer (set of input devices + monitor) to be able to control two ...

Re: on internet forums
I agree on the clickbait thing. Have you also noticed how sites like ZDNet have merged into a platform where the articles are now below each other on a scroll-through page. But the comment sections have also been put there in-line and it is a horrid mess of a system that is practically unusable and ...

on internet forums
Either I am becoming different or the world just stinks ;-). I guess there are plenty of good or reasonable English language forums. Typically however on many forums I run into fights with moderators that think they need to decide how other people should live. Not here, I have never had an issue her...

Re: Antec EDGE 550
If I had a replacement PSU I would probably already be sending this one back.... let them deal with it, you know. The units main selling point is silence. So, you can send it back if it is not. Although I would be more than eager to replace the fan myself, that's not how it works, apparently. I am c...

Re: Antec EDGE 550
The AnandTech review says the unit is quiet. The TechPowerUp review says nothing spectacular. This is a comment by a reader: I bought one of these. AND IM IMPRESSED I don't know why Johhny or whomever reviewed it said the operation is noisy. It isn't! This is a comment about the 650W version but it ...

Re: Antec EDGE 550
Of course I read them and I expected a noisy fan but not one making a ticking noise. Cause.... I have enough soldering equipment and tools and cables and whatnot to be able to reduce the voltage on it if I need to. What I cannot change, however, is ticking. So I don't know if the unit itself is faul...

Antec EDGE 550
So I got the long-awaited Edge 550 that I really just wanted to have or at least see. It is a huge unit it's really very big. The cables feel much better quality (better plastic) than the Corsair RM units, that's all I can say. Very happy with the cables although they "look" almost identical. I'd sa...

Re: hum in Antec P180 mini
There are two disks (raid 0) so I'd have to stack them but it's a bit hard to take the disks out at present.
Currently trying to stress test my system for something else :p.
I can keep the disks inside the "little cage" (twin mount) and put that on a sponge. Or some foam.

Re: hum in Antec P180 mini
Hi, thank you. I think it is even wonderful that someone alludes to knowing that they are not directly answering the question :p. These days too many people even lack such awareness. And then what often happens is that you have to fight them to no end to get the answer to the question you've asked.....

hum in Antec P180 mini
I have a P180 mini and the harddisks give a hum when the case is closed, I am pretty sure of it. The only other thing could be the front fan but it only runs at perhaps 800 rpm and I don't think it would produce such a low sound. Since the harddisks are basically already suspended in those rubber gr...

Re: Slow wifi speeds
Again I'm sorry for the confustion but the NAS does not do the writing, it does the reading. It is writing to a mounted SMB share that it has mounted from the other device. It is that other device that gives: - about 8MB/s read/write over wire (100Mbit) - about 5MB/s read/write over wifi - this uses...

Re: Slow wifi speeds
To be clear the NAS is the client (Synology) and the other device is a cheap unit that I am trying to write to (2nd NAS you might say, I just call it network disk or something). It is the NAS (client) that has IO wait in the top screen. ------------------- High thank you. So assuming 1 out of 10 bit...

It does see it as an N connection. Actually the router can't see it but the Access Point can. And it is easy to verify by turning the thing to N only.

Re: Slow wifi speeds
I have the thing (the backup disk) mounted over CIFS. I have no clue how fast the NAS is as a client. The backup disk is also a NAS but a different one. (Much simpler). I plan to use something like a RaspBerry to be able to PULL the data instead of it being sent to it. This would be much safer as we...

I have this LevelOne Wifi AP that can run in client mode that I thought was really cool, but it barely even works. Well it does work I have just never seen Wifi speeds higher than 5MB/s. That's faster than 54Mbps but not by much. The thing is supposed to do 300Mbit / second. I have a TP-Link WDR1043...

Here is a close-up of the result at the card (in the computer): http://www.xen.dds.nl/f/i/projects/fan-controller-1/farther-result_cropped.jpg The shrink-wrap looks like a half-hard dick, which is why I don't like it. Re: DIY voltage drop
I hadn't seen the "build your own fan controller" thread. My GPU is SO QUIET NOW it is unsettling. The fan now starts off at about 860 RPM (instead of 1580) and you just can't hear it, but then again my 7200 rpm 2.5" HDD is the loudest component now by far. I'm running in open case but with less air...
