I'm sorry to see that my (quite bold) statements are countered with a sense of hostility. Maybe I'm not putting my thoughts into words decently. I have the idea that all heatsinks are tested with: 1) no ambient (relative to the cpu-heatsink) airflow impedance 2) 20°C ambient temperature 3) horizont...

I disagree that the results aren't useful. The heatsinks' relative cooling capabilities are not going to change unless you choose the wrong ones to use in the wrong way -- ie a topdown squeezed too tightly in a narrow case with no room above the fan. My motivation to make my previous post came from...

Another problem with this methodology is that the heatsinks are tested in the open air. But since that's a different way than most of people will be using their heatsink (in a case, mounted vertically), this creates unrealistic conditions, which can alter the results in ways that are irrelevant to m...

That is nasty! ;) What are your gfx and cpu coolers btw? Also what gfx card and what cpu doe you have? Do both cpu and gfx card have decent temperatures with this "passive" cooling? By the way, when actively letting a fan blow on a heatsink for that very purpose is called active cooling. :p No reall...

You could've gone with the 5050e, also 45W but clocked higher at 2,6GHz, which is a whopping 37% mor...

Or did the 95W TDP quads already perform way below their limit? Yes, did you see my link about the QX9650? It's rated for 130 W, but it uses less than 65 W. I checked your link and it seems that the "load" the cpu's are enduring in that test isn't really full load. According to some of my previous ...

Re: Too hot
AMD and Intel need to get the TDP down if they want me to buy them. Just wait another month and AMD will have 95W TDP 3.0GHz models knocking at your door. ;) Which will hopefully perform the same at a lower voltage, thus lowering the temperature and juice used, while at the same time heightening th...

When I go by these graphs, the HD4850 is considered more efficient at idle than the GTX260. That is not the case in this review, which favors the GTX260 for power consumption at idle.

In the budget range of computers, the 10 to 20 dollar difference can be significant imo. AMD totally lacks vision. PowerXpress would allow us to put the loudest, most performant radeon into the case and not have it turn on at all until we game.
