Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?
Do you have any idea how low the Kotetsu fan can go rpm wise on a msi board via bios? The lowest actual rpm fan xpert 3 is reporting is 300rpm and was closer to 460rpm with the older asus bios. On my basic MSI Z97 board, under BIOS control, the Kotetsu fan tends to hang out in the 435-450 RPM range.

Re: H67 vs P67 chipset
If you mean "- Supports K-Series unlocked CPU", then you overestimate the importance of this line. It means just that - you can use them. But can't use the unlocked multiplier. Your one is a groundless state, and being rash even a bit silly according to me. Even if marketing is often an obscure art...

The Zactate test system used (according to page 4 of the review) "a picoPSU-120 120W DC-to-DC converter with 60W AC adapter".HFat wrote: The Zacate board was used with a much more powerful PSU than it needs, no doubt resulting in substantial PSU losses.
What should they have used (honest question)?

Re: Best mobo for low power consumption / HTPC build
Unless he plans 3D-gaming with that IGP (well, I don't know any game which plays decently with something like a HD5450, but that doesn't matter), the GPU Intel HD3000 (K-series) isn't any better than a regular HD2000 one, AFAIK. If you're planning on using QuickSync, the extra EUs on the 3000 provi...

Another thing, only 120GB and 240GB capacities were announced for the Onyx 2. It's possible OCZ may keep the Indilinx controllers for lower capacity offerings for a while. Yeah, considering how cheap the lower-capacity Onyx units often are (the 32GB is often $50 or below AR) it fills a hole in thei...

will Corsair TX650 stay quiet with my rig? (quiet up to 350w in review) Note the Seasonic-made TX650 in the review is no longer being produced by Corsair; they changed suppliers on that model from Seasonic to CWT, and while Seasonic-produced units might still be available for sale, there is no guar...

As a general recommendation, something based on the ATI 550/650 chips would be your best bet for analog quality. You might want to check on E-bay or something - new OEM cards occasionally pop up from time to time from some of the vendors that sell off surplus stock they bought from Gateway/Dell/etc ...

Since the S1 with Turbo would add about fifty bucks to a card, I think the card the OP linked to seems like a good value. I suspect the Turbo recommendation by AC is a CYA thing; given how cool these cards run, the S1 is massive overkill. I have direct airflow on the card itself from the fan mounte...

I picked up a Galaxy 512MB DDR5 model about two weeks ago, and then got another S1 this week, and it mounted without a problem.

If I don't push the processor, and just install Windows 7 and then keep it to normal everyday tasks like Internet and Microsoft Word docs, will the stock Intel heatsink cpu cooler work well enough until my next aftermarket cpu cooler arrives on Tuesday? Of course. Intel designs their heatsinks to k...

I never heard of Thermalright before in the CPU cooling scene. They've been around a fairly long time in the cooling segment, with a number of high-profile models over the years (at least going back to the days of Socket A - I've still got an SK-6 floating around here somewhere); that's alm...

Hello, Well, you could be correct -- though the SPCR review is inconclusive on this point: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article692-page5.html If it is load-based, then it would be a first. Hmm, I see what you mean: One item worthy of note: Big changes in power load seemed to trigger a very quick r...

most likely both Neil and the Corsair rep are right; note the rep does not explicitly state that the fan speed is load-based, Well, see the quote I posted earlier in the thread: The fan on the PSU is speed controlled by the loading on the unit, not necessarily the temperature. I'd spent some time l...

Hello, I have NEVER heard of a PSU that controlled by the watts used. ALL the PSU's have a thermally controlled fan, if they control the fan speed at all. Think about it -- what if your room is very hot, but your computer is drawing only a small amount. The heatsinks inside the PSU will warm up, an...

I am quite sure most (perhaps all?) powersupplies regulates fan speed according to temperature. I am just trying to determine whether the 800rpm slips are quiet without needing to be undervolted. The 800s are very quiet at 12V. However, my 1200s sound the same to me as my 800s when I undervolt the former to the same RPMs (I purchased two of each) - hardly there - so I wanted a little extra fo...

I think nafets is right about both issues. The clicking only happens when the Slipstream is undervolted. I've got the Thermalright bolt-thru kit. Do I have to Bolt the Ninja to it outside the case and then carefully wedge it in? I'm not sure I can do that without damaging something. Or can I mount the bolt-thru to the back of the mobo, mount the mobo and then mount the Ninja? If the latter option *IS*...

A Ninja would work in a semi passive configuration, unless you plan to overclock more than a little. My system is almost the same, picture here . The Ninja and one or two case fans at low rpm is more than enough to cool a E8400 quietly. Yeah, if he's going to do the basic 3->3.6 OC, and run his RAM...
