Gigabyte 3870 with S1
coil whine when fps in 3d app is greatly over 100, not just under stress.
Mildly annoying during loading of some games.

Is there a tutorial for CrystalCPUID for undervolting, etc..? I have played with it, but never seem to "get" it - the interface is REALLY confusing for me Funny, I gave up on RMClock for same exact reason. CrystalCPUID has only one page to set multipliers, voltages, time and load between changing p...

I had one, I still use the heatsing a nd the fan from it too cool my hdd. If I remember correctly, it managed to cool Venice 3000+ without spinning fast, basically inaudible. When I switched to Manchester 3800+ and clocked it a bit, heat was too mch and the fan had to work on max rpm to cool it. So ...

VectorLinux is a nice Slackware-based distro - it's built for speed on old systems, and it's claimed to be just about the fastest available outside of custom builds... Second that. I use VL on my work laptop. It is 100% capable distro, without any cutbacks. The customized Xfce is very usable. And s...

Meanwhile http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php ... 3&pageid=1 posted a positive review. Quite impressed with silence and cooling combination. Good words about internal design while not mentioning cheap build. Not many facual numers tho.

I confirm everything af9pk said. Me too have only 4 fans in the system, 4th being cpu cooler TT V1 on low. It spins between 400 and 800 rpm depending on load and is inaudible. Loudest part is my hard drive, old 160gb samsung. The HD heatsink does make a big difference, but muffler overall not so muc...

I went for same motherboard for my new build. Supposed to work better with 45nm cpus, and hopefully easy to undervolt. Besides, I learned that one piece of hardware in computer you shouldn't save on is your motherboard. Hate to feel limited later on. I'm less ambitious (e8200, 3870) and also aiming ...

Hi Saw a review on Gigabyte DES ad Asus EPU http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1348/4/page_4_test_system_setup_and_power_usage/index.html But watt numbers are way too large. X48 doesn't use 54 watss to begin with, so I fail to understand where does this energy saving (at idle no less) comes from. Eit...

bit-tech fails to say WHAT exactly was making noise. For all I know they have a turbine on their mega-pentium. Did they hear HDD? Did arctic fans spin faster under load? Zero useful info. The other part missing is the assembled system fit pictures. Very curious about that. No word about PSU either e...
