I think the cooling is the same, but the 740mhz version probably has faster ram and I'd assume they also have a selection process for the gpu itself...i.e. the "best" ones go on 740mhz boards and the "worst" ones on 650mhz ones. I doubt anyone but eVGA themselves really knows though (well ram might ...

Thanks! Yeah I've got a BS-03 left-over from my A10 - that's what I meant with "fan-duct" ;-) For the side panels I'll just use some bitumex foil (used that on the A10 and the case before that already to great effect) - it's mostly used in speaker building to dampen cabinet resonance => http://lauts...

Lian Li A05 - need Fan advice

I bought an A05 a few weeks ago to house some of my old spare bits and part, unfortunately it's bit too noisy out of the box - so the plan is to replace the case fans with something a bit quieter. Now...as this is just a secondary or backup system it doesn't have to be "super" quiet, for the same re...

I think the A20 is very new (at least I never saw it before) so it probably isn't widely available just yet. I have the A10 and managed to mod it essentially inaudible, but I don't think it's EATX compatible... (for more info on the A10 look here => http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php...

I have a lian-li A10 and A05 which both have it too. It does help and it makes a lot of difference to seek noise (I put in the "securing" screws on one drive once and seek noise was a hell of a lot louder then). But ofc you can't expect it to be as effective as suspending a drive - if you have a dri...

A friend of mine has the saitek and she's quite happy with it - personally I'm using a apple alu keyboard though (works perfectly under windows or linux out of the box), for typing it's just the most comfortable and least straining keyboard I've ever used and for gaming it's great as well. As pretty...

Yeah fan whine - it's reasonably quiet at idle (very probably even inaudible above your fans) but it becomes noticeable once the card is under load. Even under load it's not all that annoying though - it's more of a "hum" than a whine, the sound isn't all that high pitched from memory. Before I star...

1. Unless you got a real crappy PSU you shouldn't have any problems, my entire system (e8400, evga gf9600gt, 2gb ram, 1 HD) draws about 140W while playing a current game (measured at the wall). 2. In my system the 9600gt ran at 44c idle and 62c load with the standard cooling. Seeing as you have a pa...

Did some more testing - under typical load (i.e. playing current games) the gpu tops out at 48c and the cpu at 52c - very happy with those temps :-) With only 4 12cm noctuas all running at 4.7V the fans are essentially inaudible :-) On the downside I now hear vibration based noise from the HD...time...

As for watching dvds: under linux you can simply open a terminal and enter "sudo hdparm -E1 /dev/scd0" (replace /dev/scd0 with your actual dvd device) this limits the speed of the drive to 1x - you can also use -E2 (i.e. 2x speed) to be on the safe side, -E1 can rarely leed to stutters if the drive ...

Hya, first off - very nice setup, I might copy that HD setup when I have the time :-) To answer the question of one vs multiple fans: - Take a given system, with current upper midrange components - Choose a given target temperature (says 55c max under load) - you'll find that several fans (i.e 4) at...

This is a shot I took a few days ago: http://phoenixsun.helicon.ch/pc/gfx3.jpg At the back you can see a perforated area of the case - that whole area would be covered by the fanduct and reach into the case for ~18-20cm. I'm very happy with the A10 - have a look at my thread in the gallery: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47247 PSU cables - there's an extension for the 4pin connector included with the case so at least that isn't a problem.
