This is the first I've heard of this concept. What are "stacked backpanel connectors"?BlackWhizz wrote:
Scythe Setsugen? It will fit, but you need to have a card which doesnt have stacked backpanel connectors. Thats the man reason why so much coolers dont fit.

I used the screwdriver trick to "listen" to the case. All three fans are isolated with silicone and the hdd is suspended and everything is as it should be... no sympathetic vibrations. If this really is a negative pressure issue then I wonder what might happen if I added a 92mm fan up front to help ...

It almost sounds like a hdd with the heads constantly moving. I booted into Windows so I could get to Gigabytes "EasyTune" software and look at fan speed. Unfortunately I have no fan monitoring or control in Linux. With the case open, fan running in "free air" it reports ~725 rpm. So maybe the CHA_F...

Actually I need to be more specific... I've swapped the side panels so that the air doesn't short circuit through the Mugen. I've also closed up the rear expansion covers and rear expansion vents to prevent the same short circuit. The Mugen is running semi-passive, it does have it's own D12SL12 atta...

Rear fan gets louder when I close the case
So the situation is this... NSK 3480 with a Nexus D12SL12 in the rear opening with the Nexus silicone isolators. The rear opening has been de-grilled. Airflow wise the case is otherwise stock (wiring has been moved behind the mobo tray), cpu is an i3-530 cooled by a Scythe Mugen2 passive. The fan is...

1 is for the PSU replacement if I ever get around to attempting it - but i'm concerned about bricking the PSU/killing myself. Do you have any amount of mechanical ability? I was lookingg this over after yesterdays Intel X25-V shocker (which is still showing in my cart at $99 even though I haven't purchased it). Unfortunately this still doesn't pull the SSD's into the realm of "affordable" yet. A few of the OCZ pieces have some impressive prices with MIR, but I only he...

The inlet fan positions in the 3480 are 92mm, not 120mm. Take a close look on socket placement on your motherbard and the rear fan placement on the case. The rear case fan is positioned at the upper limit of the main chamber. In the instance of my Gigabyte H55 board, the socket is centered (generall...

A lot of it depends on what you are upgrading to. I would tend to say that you would best served reusing the Solo, Xigmatec and the fans. Depending on what you are doing I would say nix the front fans, put one of the Nexus 120's on the cooler and one on the rear of the case. Block one of the front o...

Wow was that loud...
I take back everything my inexperienced ear said about the cooler that came with my i3 over the last few weeks. It's annoyingly loud. The noise I had been hearing I had chalked up to an interference tone between my HDD and my PSU fan. This morning I swapped out my psu for the original Antec EA380D t...

I would tend to agree with a more traditional approach with mATX, a standard ATX (or mATX) power supply from a known manufacturer, and Clarkdale i3-530 on an H55 board (Gigabyte UD2 comes to mind as solid and low price). Use the stock cooler from Intel - it's quieter at idle than my 6400AAKS and the...

Well, if you are taking requests on the 3480.... Overall it's a fantastic case! It really just needs to be "modernized" rather than completely reworked: 1. Update front I/O to USB 3.0, eSata (versus current USB 2.0 and 1394) 2. Cable management slots to work cables behind the motherboard tray 3. Pre...

What HDD temps do you see with the drive in the upper, presumably-no-airflow, chamber? The machine has been on in standard use (some idle, some Hulu, some email, etc) for about 4 hours now. hddtemp in Linux shows 40C. I actually didn't build this to be a low power rig or a HTPC. Believe it or not I...

DOes this answer your question? Not really. But VGA is still a viable transport system. Besides, my netbook doesn't have a digital out... I find that odd also. I've been eyeing a new system for a few months now when my old system dropped the IDE controller last August, an AthlonXP system from yesteryear. *Why do modern monitors even have VGA connectors? Are there even graphics cards out there that can use the full resolution of a monitor this size that don't have digital outputs of some sort? Alternatively you can bank all that extra overclocking ability in the 530 as reduced voltage instead, particularly in a HTPC. I've got vCore down to 1.00v stable right now. I also have my OCZ 1066 kit down to 1.3v. I haven't stress tested it yet, but in my daily use for the last 3 days I haven't see...

Should I get a fan controller or is running at the default speed fine? If your motherboard has a fan header, use it. Otherwise plugging it in to one of your 4 pin Molex connectors will work fine. Man, that Lian Li A05 would've been perfect if it were Micro ATX and shorter, even with a few less drive bays. It is Micro ATX. I agree with cutting out the restrictive rear vent. The grommets are pretty pricey, but come free with a Nexus 120mm fan. Buy the quieter fan and get the grommets for free... or buy the grommets and get a quieter fan for free... :) There has to be someplace in Canada that sells the Nexus fans. MikeC...
