I read that post! Interesting stuff, didn't recognize you as the author! This is something that warrants some planning and testing for, I love the concept. What is your drive setup in linux? (off topic) What do you think would be the easiest way to back up data to a network location? Am I just paran...

 Overload! OK, for the first time in years I am rethinking having a separate /home partition. I had always separated it so that I could upgrade / reinstall without messing with my data. However, based on comments here, I would be better served by having everything on one disk, in one partitio...

So one drive? I didn't think that would be the best solution, but it seems like it may be. It's too bad people scared me so bad about software raid, I didn't want to be tied to a controller, as if the controller failed I could not rebuild until I got another. It seems like that is a lot of hassle. H...

But you seem to not realize how critical /home is for desktop performance. Any software you run as a normal user will be using files in /home. For example, one of the most file intensive desktop applications is a web browser like Firefox--which churns away files in /home like crazy. Ineed, I am try...

Thanks! I found the 150 on the WD site, but didn't know they were available for sale. Looking into the 80 GB dells. *Edit, can't find in dell site, I can only find the 300GB Is it worth it? Are there other fast quiet smaller system drives I should consider? Just don't know if the VR are worth the mo...

So what should I do instead? I'll get a NAS (buffalo link station or such) to stay up all the time on the network, and back up to that (and have it back up to an external drive plugged in). But what will best fit my main system then? One 7200 drive (F1 or 6400AAKS) for root / system, and another dri...

Meh, never mind, this is a dead horse.

I'll side with Corsair because of the longer history over the Enermax with higher efficiency and price.

What drive configuration in desktop if most data in NAS?
Misleading Poll title! Please vote on what drives should go in my "desktop" p182, not in the NAS. I think I could have phrased that poll title better, and I can't edit it. Oh to be able to add some more options...or remove the poll... ----------------------------------------------------------------...

Yes, I am leaning strongly to the Corsair now. Even though the Enermax is /slightly/ quieter, the Corsair has proven reliability (300+ reviews on newegg), better warranty, and (I just read) a higher operating environment temperature rating. I believe that translates into better efficiency, lifetime ...

Updated OP with current thoughts. I'm not so concerned about overclocking, seems to defeat the purpose of silent. Although if it's easy and silent, why not? I must say my driving force is both silent and the current deal, so if someone suggests something that happens to be at a good price, I'll snap...

So I ordered a p182. Done. In the mail. Now for the rest of it. Yes, I'm sure it has been beaten to death, but I would like help and will chronicle it here. Please help me find parts for it, this is my first spc build. I only run Linux, for those that know of compatibility issues. 0)Case: Antec p182...

regarding this 1) I'm looking at big PSU's because i want an efficient (80+) PSU that won't run at close to max output most of the time. My reasons for this is, and maybe i'm wrong about this, but i guess that if it runs at 40-50% capacity it will be more efficient and it will also run cooler and th...

Thanks for the pictures, that is an angle I had not seen. I am still trying to scope out all the hardware, the only specifics I have currently are: -A passive card with an Accelero - likely a HD4850, as the linux drivers are maturing nicely, and the Nvidia bad batch scare is keeping me away from the...

Is the case prone to obstructed airflow? Why open up the 5.25 bays? I say a post removing front grills, but it seems that specific mods and more importantly (to a new spc'r like me) pictures and "known" setups are not as frequent here. Why? Is this case unpopular for some reason? This will be my fir...

New Mini P180 build
Hi! I am about to order an Antec Mini P180. Good idea? A few questions, Will a full size Ninja fit? (if not just a mini?) Will the Accelero S1 / S2 card coolers fit? What are the "must have" things to get for this case? I started a quest for a silent SFF box, and then moved to HTPC, like the nsk-248...

Yes, I love the idea of the KPC, but I can not have DVI without adding a pci graphics card, and I would like to use that slot for a sound card or other appliction. Is the 1300 / 1380 really that bad for noise and other? When I first started this crusade I though it was perfect. Why are our build req...

Micro ATX w/ 2480 vs Mini-ITX
I am not sure which route to go. I would like to have a SFF system, because I really like that form factor, but it seems like there are not any cube like boxes that have the noise, size (volume), price, and expansion for my purposes. I figure -- if I am not going to have that much expansion capabili...

NVIDIA Hybrid SLI® technology - truth or hype?
Hybrid SLI® technology I am planning for a build and while researching motherboards for Ubuntu and looking up onboard graphics chipsets I came upon this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/hybrid_sli.html I figure that I could use onboard 8200 graphics while waiting for the 9x series of cards to get a pa...
