low power file server / download machine

Hi, I'm looking at building a nice small, low power machine to act as a file server / download machine that will run 24/7. Obviously the lower the power the better and it doesn't need to be amazingly fast as torrent software and file sharing isn't exactly processor hungry. Also, a bit of a no braine...

PC boot problem, help!

The other day my PC randomly switched itself off... after that it would not switch back on... After consulting some IT guys at work they reccomended doing a wire trick to test my PSU, this was about 2 days later, before trying this I gave it one last attempt, and it came on... it lasted about 5 minu...

Hardly seems worthwhile for the performance hit!

Although look at the Atoms heatsink, it looks like the tiny thing thats on my South Bridge! Amazing that the chipset has a better cooler than the CPU!

I would recommended using a can of compressed air over a hoover personally, probably best to take the fan guard off first so you can get better access...

and of course, I'm assuming your intelligent enough to realise to unplug it first and leave it to discharge for a little while ;)

I just want to use Speedfan to monitor RPM speed of the fans. I will be using Zalman FanMates to control speed of both front and rear fans. The gigabyte only allows you to control 2 of the 4 fans... I know, I have one ;) And yes the Scythe Ninja does fit on this mobo, but make sure you check which way your installing it, as one way the heatpipes will touch the northbridge cooler, if it does turn it 90 degrees! The 2 fan headers problem ...

FS ebay UK: Lots of items

I have the following items up for grabs, can reduce postage costs if combining more than one item. The x1950 pro is a real bargain if you have an AGP system you want to keep running, its a very powerful card for the AGP bus and if you couple it with a 3rd party heatsink/fan it could be as quiet as y...

I expect most people don't have 90 GB of music though. What bitrate is that encoded at, anyway? At 128kbps (used by services like iTunes) that works out to around 25,000 songs. Even at 320 kbps that would be around 10,000 tracks. : ) Its mostly 320kbps or V0, theres the odd thing thats less, but mo...

One thing you should bare in mind is that you can really drop the voltage on the E8200, if you keep it stock speed you can probably drop it to about 1.05v, if you want to overclock it a little to say 3.2Ghz (400 x 8 ) you can still undervolt it to about 1.1125v :) The new 45nm chips are great for lo...

If I was you I wouldnt' just jump straight to 4Ghz, thats just silly! you should do it a step at a time, as theres no gurentee that your chip will hit 4Ghz!

Overclocking (so its stable) is a lengthy process with lots of testing!
