Someone plz remind me; custom alu cases - New England
Anyone remember the name of the company that made customized aluminum cases in a fairly small form-factor? I think they were in VT, NH or MA. The case I'm thinking of was aluminum, and had natural finish (or clear-coated) if I remember right. It was a very small case, and used a hinged design where ...

I vote for 1 or 2 OCZ Vertex/Agility/Solid2 w/ 1.5FW. I have 2 30GB Vertex in RAID0. I will never go back to HDDs for OS. Although I lose TRIM support by using RAID, I still have GC (with 1.5FW) which is keeping the drive in shape. http://www.youtube.com/user/MyCEVideo#p/a/0/Lyz1xDe3xO8 Do a fresh i...

I chose the OCZ over Intel because 1) I'm on an AMD platform and figured I'd have better luck with a non-Intel drive Do you have a base for that? Doesn't make sense to me. :) Do you honestly think Intel does as much development/testing for their SSDs on AMD chipsets as they do their own? As indicat...

I bought a 64GB Indilinx but sold it and bought (2) 32GB Indilinx (OCZ Vertex) which I put in a RAID0 array. I missed the recent deals so I ended up spending $280 for the pair. (ouch.) Oh well, totally worth it. I chose the OCZ over Intel because 1) I'm on an AMD platform and figured I'd have better...

Defnitely not a replacement for the 3480, which is a mATX case, and never intended to house hot high performance components. It was intended for quiet computing, but users saw its potential with hotter gear and just started using it, modding it. I think a replacement for the 3480 is coming, tho. Th...

I don't see the 3480 on NewEgg anymore <gasp> Is this it's replacement? Antec NSK 4482B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129072 I have personally run into the issue with the 3480 and lack of room when it comes to after-market PSU and an optical drive, not fun. The 4482B would...

I'd spend more on the board personally. ASUS P5E-VM HDMI, $125, but was just on sale for $99 at NewEgg a few days ago. I run an E5200 on that board at 3.33GHz (10*333) using this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146673 If you want to fully test your system for stability ...

I agree with psiu, send it back. I like to buy drives in pairs (or greater quantities, if I can,) just for this reason alone. There are other benefits too: http://www.ktb.net/~jason/images/hdtune/HDTune_R0_3_wd10ead@483gb.png That's (3) wd10ead's in matrix raid (using the first 180gb slice from each...

I really like the size of the case. And I don't see myself ever using more than two harddrives. The only reason I use two drives instead of one is RAID1. I've already lost a lot of files when my harddrive crashed, I don't want it happening again. Don't forget, RAID is not a backup. If you really wa...

NSK-3480 + SeaSonic M12II 430W = VERY Shallow Optical drive
I'm building a new box for general purpose and gaming, and reusing my 3480. I bought a new PSU, SeaSonic M12II SS-430GM 430W. I didn't realize how much deeper in length this PSU would be over the stock Earthwatts 380W, and it's going to be a bit of squeeze to get an optical drive in the upper bay us...

Anyone tried them? Reviews seem pretty good, although they are few and far between. "Box" specs are good, and the price is right. I did notice that the reviews on NewEgg for their power supplies indicate a real problem with quality control.... Anyway, here's one review of their fans: http://www.vipe...

Interesting choice on the Arctic Cooling Alpine 7, hadn't heard of that one before. I use the same 3480 case for the system I mentioned above. I use two Noctua's: NF-P12 exhaust @ 1400rpm, NF-S12 intake @ ~800rpm. I have the intake fan controlled by the m/b, this is probably a mistake and I should t...

Agree on cleaning up the cabling, zip-ties are your friend. Plus make sure everything is dust free. I think the root of your problem may be running it w/ the case side cover off. The exhaust fan won't pull flow properly without the cover on ( I saw this-first hand a few days back when I was juggling...
