Re: Noctua Cooler Comparison
Yes, Amazon automatically calculates all that when you go to check out. The Le Grand Macho works out to being only around $20. more than the Noctua NH-D15 (from Newegg.ca). I'd rather have a single than a double heat sink. I can't get your attachments to open or enlarge. The SPCR website is acting w...

Re: Noctua Cooler Comparison
It looks like I can order the Le Grand Macho from Amazon.com (US), and they will ship to Canada.
Impressive review from TechPowerUp: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/The ... cho/9.html
Do you think it's worth putting a second fan on it? Or swapping out the TY147B fan?

Re: Noctua Cooler Comparison
The NH-D15 seems rather bulky, especially with two fans. Since it interferes with the RAM slots, how do people normally use it? This made me wonder about something: In an air cooler, which of the components is doing most of the cooling...the heatsink, or the fan? If it's the fan, would adding a seco...

Re: Noctua Cooler Comparison
Thanks Abula. I hadn't heard of La Grand Macho RT, even though it's a two year old cooler. I've just been out of the loop. After reading some reviews of it, it seems very good, even beating the Noctua D15 in some reviews. The La Grand Macho isn't on Newegg.ca or a few other places that I usually sho...

Noctua Cooler Comparison
So, I'm thinking of getting the Ryzen 2700 X, and looking at potential coolers for it.
There's a couple of Noctua's that caught my eye. 1). NH-D15 SE-AM4 2). NH-U12S SE-AM4
Would I notice much temp difference between them? Just wondering if the D15 is worth the extra cost.

Re: New Asus WS C246 Motherboard
Hmm...interesting..on this anandtech article it lists two M.2 slots at 3.0x4 and says "or SATA?" for each.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/13118/as ... s-c246-pro
Do most boards with two M.2 slots have both at full speed PCIe?

Re: New Asus WS C246 Motherboard
You could put a Samsung 970 Pro VMe PCIe SSD on each of those M.2 slots, and use them to store videos or video editing files on them.
I'm hoping this board gets released soon so I can read some reviews. Hopefully AsRock will do a C246 chip board too.

Re: Is a NAS worth it for a single user?
Thanks. The only small NAS I've been able to find that has both Btrfs and ECC RAM is the Netgear ReadyNAS 524 series. But It's too pricey. https://www.amazon.ca/Netgear-ReadyNAS-Attached-Diskless-RN524X00-100NES/dp/B01M7X2FP2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1532662721&sr=1-1&keywords=NETGEAR+Re...

Re: Is a NAS worth it for a single user?
Open to suggestions for an affordable NAS (under $600. US).
I'd prefer a small form factor 2 bay (or 4 bay) with ECC RAM and a self healing file system like Btrfs or ZFS.

Interesting what you mentioned about btrfs and zfs. In a recent inteview with Alex Wang (Synology), he said they researched many different filesystems for over two years and finally decided on btrfs, because zfs was still too new. https://www.anandtech.com/show/13104/synology-redefines-the-nas-an-in...

Scythe Kotetsu SCKTT-1000 for sale
Scythe Kotetsu SCKTT-1000 CPU cooler for sale. Brand new, still in box. never used. Note: this is the SCKTT-1000, not the newer Mark II. I bought it from NCIX.com when I was intending to do an Intel build with it a year or so ago, but never got around to it. Special SPCR price of US$35.00 (plus ship...

Re: New noctua 120mm PWM fan, NF-A12x25 the GT Clone
When buying Noctua fans, is there any difference in noise or airflow between buying a PWM fan and running it at the ULN or FLX rpm settings, and buying the actual ULN or FLX versions?

Re: Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 7 2700
Thanks Ollie. That's sort of what I intuitively suspected. From all the reading I've done, it seems overclocking the 2600 or 2700 draws a lot more power than overclocking the 'X' models. https://www.bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/cpus/amd-ryzen-5-2600-review/6/ And most of the reviewers I've read (kitgur...
