Re: AX650 has a (slight, but annoying) buzz. RMA? Alternativ
Did your unit begin with coil whine? Yes, I suspect it did. But it was incredibly quiet, just as you describe - an extremely, extremely faint "zzzz" sound; it was so quiet that I could only hear it if I pressed my ear to the back of the PSU. I couldn't even hear it if I stood up. I convinced myself...

Re: AX650 has a (slight, but annoying) buzz. RMA? Alternativ
Thanks for the update. What you are describing sounds pretty much like what my AX750 was like out of the box. I hope that you have better luck than I did and that your unit does not become louder over time. It took mine months to get to a level where it became easily noticeable and then months more ...

Re: AX650 has a (slight, but annoying) buzz. RMA? Alternativ
I would be interested in hearing what you think about the replacement AX750 they sent you. I have had an AX750 for about a year, and the coil whine that it has developed has become quite aggravating. It was always there from the very beginning but was quite faint and easy to ignore, and I was hoping...

Re: Any recommendations for a 80mm x 15mm PSU fan?
How is the PSU going to fit your case? If there is space by the PSU fan intake you could fit an 80x25mm fan on the outside instead. The case I'm using is a BitFenix Prodigy. The mounting area for the PSU is separated from the main chamber by a small metal "cage" and there really isn't very much wri...

Any recommendations for a 80mm x 15mm PSU fan?
I just ordered a Silverstone ST45SF-G for an ITX build that I am working on, and all anecdotal evidence suggests that the bitty little fan in this PSU is noisy and irritating. I'm thinking about swapping out the fan, but of course 80x15mm fans are rare, and reliable+quiet ones might as well not exis...

WTB a Thermalright Shaman
Title says it all. Would like a complete set including the VRM heatsinks, but just the cooler itself would be okay too. Send me a PM. I hope someone out there has one that they want to sell!

Those new Samsungs sound fantastic. 500GB is a bit much for this system, though. I suppose 500GB is the new bang-for-the-buck point? Is there anything smaller storage-wise and even cheaper, or would I start having to sacrifice acoustics and quality if I go with lowered capacity? I realize that I mig...

Cheapest decent 3.5" HDD? Emphasis on cheap....
For the last several months, an extremely loud, high-pitched whirring noise has been coming out of the husband's gaming system; today I finally stuck my head inside the case and realized---much to my horror---that the noise was the HDD. The noise is unbelievable; it sounds like the drive heads are e...

As for SlipStreams there are many complaints about them in terms of life time. The cause is very simple, they have very poor lubricant inside and very small quantity at that, which totally evaporates within a few months. I would highly recommend to lubricate them just after purchase. Car motor oil ...

angelkiller, Based on Kaleid's post, have you tried clocking the card down to 160/200 on stock voltages? I think you said you tried 160/200 on reduced voltages, but not stock. Then again, I guess not reducing voltage doesn't really affect temps/power consumption? Then again, every little bit helps? ...

Yeah, the Audigy was almost covering the opening of the heatsink; it was that close to touching the graphics card. It must have been more or less cutting off all of the fresh air to the graphics card fan, as well as preventing it from exhausting properly. But I've tried the onboard, and I've tried t...

angelkiller, Hooray for a slightly sucessful BIOS experiment! I eagerly await your 2D conclusions... so that I may profit as well, ha ha. ;) I agree with your conclusion that 160/500 is too slow for the plain desktop environment. As for how the other 4830 models do it... maybe they have physically d...

All right, I will wait patiently for your 2D results---you are obviously more knowledgeable in that area than I am. I will pop on the Accelero and see if I get the same temps you did when you used the Accelero on yours. We'll see if our respective case airflow situation changes things much or...

I'd love to see your results with a S1 and that Kaze-Jyu Slim. Now that you mention it, I now remember that this card's idle specs arn't very "idleish", ie they're high. That might explain some of it. I have considered underclocking my card at idle. The only reason I haven't is because I also wante...

First of all, I'm sorry to belabor the point here, especially since it seems that I'm offending people, which I don't mean to do. Why is Obama "African-American" when McCain is not "European-American" Mm, I would argue that Obama isn't "African-American" in the first place; that's just some silly politically-correct term that lawmakers like to use to indicate that they're being sensitive or somesuch. Thus, McCain is not "Euro...

Swapped OEM case fan, now mobo/SpeedFan won't detect new fan
Hi all, My system is half a Sony-out-of-the-box retail system and half stuff that I've added/taken out/modified. Latest modification is the 92mm chassis fan---it was driving me nuts with its weird resonant whiny purring, so I swapped it out for a 100mm Scythe Kaze Jyu 1000 RPM slim fan (SY1012SL12L)...

Can anyone give any input on a PSU from NMB?
First off, the PSU is an OEM, and it's kind of noisy, and I intend to fix that at some point, once I spend some more time on the forums. :) Mostly, I just want to hear from anyone who has ever encountered a PSU from NMB. Are they reliable? Who is the actual manufacturer? Are they reliable? What are ...
