Re: Luxury Media Server / Archiver
Sell your client a proper big name server if you want reliability. The cheapest ones which have the bells and whistles you'd expect like ECC and remote management ain't that expensive. It'll look like serious business on paper and you won't be the one to blame if the hardware fails. If the requirem...

Luxury Media Server / Archiver
I have the unique opportunity to put together a distributed media system for a (ZOMG!) mansion in Newport, RI. It needs to be expandable to serve up to 15 clients (probably not at the same time) and perhaps become the basis of a home automation system. Seeing as I've never put together a Windows Hom...

Re: Samsung PN58C6400 Plasma HDTV
As much as I agree that reduction of power consumption is something to strive for, I don't feel that advocating avoidance of this television set strictly due to hourly wattage use is a wise decision. I'm sure that you didn't mean it in such harsh terms, but a more public affairs friendly way of conc...

9800GT EE, e5200, motherboards, ram, etc.
*edit* turned this into a general for sale thread. I have an MSI 870A-G54 motherboard. Very good bang for the buck, got it to try ati + physx combo. The physx didn't really impress me, but this board was great! Has both USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 Moved to an M-ATX platform, so this guy is up for sale. -$6...

Random Stuff, priced to move.
I am looking to create some liquid assets to save, invest, create equity or what have you. But that's beside the point, you just want to see items with prices! Two HD5850 cards for sale.
I have two HD5850 graphics cards for sale, I no longer game sooo... here we go. One is an XFX and the other is Powercolor. They both come in retail boxes with accessories and work perfectly fine. Completely stock (which is a miracle, coming from me) and never overclocked. Sold the XFX one! Price for...

Hey guys, I just got my 5850 yesterday (UPS guy ran late and I wasn't happy about that) mine is a Gigabyte variant. And another treat, I got my Accelero S1 also, which was a nice surprise. So my first impressions of the card is that it is a heavy peice of technology. I am not one to purchase "high-e...

WTB Single Slot Cooler for 9600GSO
I know many of you have replaced the stock cooler for something better, I need your old one. I am trying to run a 9600gso for physx for funsies and ran into a clearance problem, so single slot is my only choice short of purchasing a new motherboard, card or elaborate riser system. So let me know the...

What is your definition of decent performance? For some people it is simply a computer that is responsive and doesn't take more than 5 seconds to load up most of their word processing programs. For others it is crysis or nothing. What I'm trying to say is it would be easier to help if we knew the ai...

Re: two oposite directions
maybe we'll see a greater split between the platform that is offered to these separate groups. I doubt it, because the consumerist market being the way it is, people are absolutely convinced that they need MORE POWER. It is the same reason the vast majority of people aren't buying 120HP econoboxes....

Fall Clean Out Virtual Yardsale!
Hi, I've somehow amassed quite a bit more than I should have, so I am doing a general cleanout and even parting out my HTPC system. I'm posting here first, and also on my local Rhode Island Craigslist. SPCR'ers get priority because this is by far my favorite computer related community. My prices are...

This is a joke build I made because I was bored, using my HTPC guts, lol. Normally this is enclosed in a very modestly noisy Antec Fusion Remote Black. It is a little messy in there, but I plan on pulling all that stuff later today. Decided my fellow SPCR'ers would get a kick out of it. http://picas...

There are capable mini-itx motherboards out there (the Nvidia Ion platform comes to mind, as well as a couple G45 based socket LGA775 motherboards and AM2 8200/780G based itx boards). There is no advantage really except smaller size. I would much rather suggest a micro-atx motherboard because you wo...

problem solved... haha.
I agree with waiting on the new HD58xx line of cards, since you should be on idle most of the time and that's where most of your savings should come from.
