Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Oh yeah, get a 1080 ti. I had one machine with a 980, 980 ti and 1080 that did about 1.4 million ppd, replaced the 980 and 980 ti with the 1080 ti, now it's about the same ppd (maybe a little more) for 150 watts less, it's nice. I might stick the 980 ti back in, and see how that goes, but it'll take...

Well, just broke a billion points, two 980s and a 980ti keep things humming. Not sure what milestone to look forward to next.

Looks like something wonky happened with the gpu setup. Any driver updates or anything? I'd check the device manager, make sure the gpu is still recognized. If it is, then try adding the gpu slot back, see if it works again.

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog
Just an FYI, I've had a couple of nvidia 980 gtx cards for a while, they produce about 300-370k ppd, and the power consumption is fairly low, my dual 980 system runs at about 380 watts, when they're both running fah core 18 jobs. I recently picked up a gtx 980 ti, and that's producing from 400-470k ...

Heh, just barely in the top 100. I used to be up in the 80s, but I've slid. I should get another video card, but meh, maybe wait until fall.

Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Well Neil, if you're looking for a better card, I'm sure I could spare one from my stack. I have 4 gtx 460s just sitting on a shelf, and I could probably dig up a 560 or two, but I think they're mounted in a shut down system. You might even talk me out of one of my idled gtx 770 cards, although one ...

Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom
Hey, congrats Neil. I just recently broke 600 million, with the help of some new hardware. The nvidia gtx 980 cards are pretty sweet, I'm currently getting around 330k ppd per card, and the power consumption with that is pretty low. I have a system with two 980 cards in it, and the total system powe...

Re: repair parts for old comp.
Well, if you're really interested in socket 775 boards, I have a gigabyte ep45-ud3p motherboard ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358 ) which seems to have an spdif port, and it appears to be compatible with your cpu. I also have an asus p5e-vm hdmi board, which also has ...

Re: Advice on a "second-grade" folding rig
You could try OCing it, probably wouldn't hurt the cpu too much if you put a decent cooler on it. I used a couple of 560s for a while, they're pretty decent. I'm not sure how much you could OC the 560 without it making a lot of noise, though, it depends a lot on the card. Having decent airflow in th...

Re: BitFenix Phenom Mini-ITX Case
Great review, I have the BitFenix Prodigy, it seemed fair. The Phenom seems to be the same case as the Prodigy without the handles. Interesting. Anyway, I did put a 230mm fan in the front, it seems to be working ok, the hard drives don't get too hot. I have 4 3.5" drives in the box, a dvd drive, an ...

One case that has piqued my interest recently is the Corsair Carbide Air 540. Here's a review from Anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7124/corsair-carbide-air-540-case-review Not sure if it's really your price or size range, but it looks like a good case if you want to experiment with your set...

Re: Mini-ITX enclosure for 2 or more 3.5" HDDs in suspension
Yeah, I have a Prodigy, it's a good little case. One 5.25 drive bay, and a bunch of 3.5 bays. You can remove all the 3.5 bays too, so pulling those out and suspending a couple drives should be easy. It also has a couple 2.5 drive holders on one of the side panels, so it's easy to add one as a boot d...

Re: MINI ITX Build ?? NEW MEMBER - Fairly Experienced Builde
I put a build into a Bitfenix prodigy a while ago, it's a nice little case. It has a lot of space for drives, and that's useful. I built it to be a machine for general use and to backup my file server, so it's good for that. One thing to consider for NAS type applications is to get a mini-itx board ...

Hey, I just tried posting a picture over here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=66470 and I got a message I hadn't seen before:
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached
Is something going on, or was the picture just too big or something?

Re: Alternative to having a desk in the living room?
I used to just have a laptop on a cutting board in the living room, but I wanted a faster machine and didn't want to buy another laptop. But I did have a couple other fast machines, so I got the longest monitor arm I could find, clamped it onto my end table, and got that working. Then I thought, hey...

Re: wooden case with optimal airflow (my first silent PC)
Yeah, with the expensive wood, you should probably get some cheap wood and do a prototype with that first. Then when you have any tricks and dimensions worked out, go with the pricey wood. That's what I did with my big brass box ( http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=59803 ), di...

Well, seems like you have a pretty wide range you could select from. Does your kid have any preferences? I have a BitFenix Prodigy that would easily fit what you're looking at, and might appeal to the kid's aesthetic sense. But honestly, if you don't care about the form factor or much else, you opti...

Re: Why I won't recommend a Haswell system until August+
Eh, haswell isn't so bad. I've got an i7 4770k overclocked up to 4.2 Ghz now, the temps get up into the mid 70s, but so far it seems pretty stable. I'm also using the built in video, so that might be adding some extra heat. But so far, it seems fine.

Hey, another update, with a little overclocking (and not much), I got the gtx 770 card up to 90k ppd, which is nice. I also picked up a gtx 780 card, and it's generating 139kppd! It's pretty amazing. Oh, and I think both cards are using less than 200W! I'm really going to have to check my ppd/watt t...

I just picked up the Asus gtx 780 direct cu card, and it seems pretty decent so far. I'm currently running it in a machine ...

Another update, I got v7 working with a gtx 770 card, and it's producing more than 80k ppd! Very nice stuff, think I'll get a 780 and see how that goes. The kepler cards is a real game changer in terms of ppd/watt. I'd definitely recommend getting one if you can swing it. I think two of those 770 ca...

Re: Gaming/Work/HTPC/Steambox PC-low TDP, high performance
Keep meaning to post on this. I recently built a mini-itx system in the BitFenix Prodigy, and it's a fairly quiet little system. I got an msi board that had 6 sata ports so I could use the disk space to set up a mirror of my main file server, no extra video card in it. But I did put in a front 200mm...

Hey, sorry I missed this thread. I just set up a mini-itx system with a 4770k processor on the asrock Z87E-ITX board in a Bitfenix Prodigy case. It's running pretty well now, I stuck a prolimatech megahalems on it for cooling, and it's a pretty quiet system. Hope your system works out ok!

Yeah, version 7 has some cool features, you can monitor other machines on your network, and it will download the next WU in some cases. There was also a recent release that may let you fold on nvidia cards natively in linux. I haven't gotten it to work yet, but it's supposed to be available now. The...
