Re: Cheapest quiet netbook

I don't know, do typical netbooks make any noise? Yes I would like to know as well - basically if any NB will do or you have to aim for specific and SPCR tested model. I think it more or less comes to question how do the 5400 rpm drives compare to WD Green or Samsung F4 5400 rpm desktop drives. Are...

Cheapest quiet netbook

In a search for new netbook, the title sums it up pretty much - there are only two requirements: cheap & quiet (best compromise of the too). Well maybe third requirement - easy to get around here (EU). cheap = sub 300€ (less is better) quiet = I should not hear it from 0.5 meter distance while idle ...

Wow, that DirectCU card looks really nice. Since it is 3 slot design - I can imagine it will be pretty quiet, wonder how it compares to Gainward Phantom.

Re: Reference PWM fan - 120mm

Well I have couple of SY1225SL12M - the non-PWM version. From the "hand test" the amount of air it moves doesn't look very impressive at 700rpm. Also all of them have some bearing noise - but it is possible that an accident when they have fallen down from respectable distance to floor is to blame he...

Just by visual inspection: http://www.fudzilla.com/images/stories/Reviews/Graphics/Nvidia/Fermi/580/phantom/GTX_580_phantom-box-front_4.jpg tha gainward card heatsink doesn't look as massive as Accelero and it also uses 80cm fans instead of 92cm (on AXP) so I think it's relatively safe to conclude t...

Re: Help me find aftermarket cooler please!

Because Thermalright does not provide reduction for the fan that would fit into pwm connector on card. You would need a reduction vga pwm to normal fan pwm which can be found only on ebay - than it works. I am not sure though if you can make it idle at 300-400 rpm and full load at 600 rpm (which is ...

Reference PWM fan - 120mm

I am thinking about replacing my rear, top case / CPU fans which are Nexus Basic 120mm @7V ~ 700rpm for PWM fans with similar noise per CFM. (to gain quieter idle and slightly more performance at load) Not decided yet just want to know my options. My idea is they should do idle @400rpm (or less) and...

Re: New xBits 120 mm Fan Roundup, Part I: 1350 RPM or Lower

I bought couple of Nexus LED fans just because the basic ones were out of stock and they all start at 7V without problems. Of course the main problem with those fans is that the LED light is really annoying especially when used as case rear at night so it was only matter of time to replace them with...

However all reviews of the TY140 fan I've read so far including http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=60968&p=530331 or xbitlabs review state that the fan does not produce any clicking nois...

Re: Fanless video card vs. Quiet video card

Well I had a passive Sapphire 3870 and without fan it would reach temps over 100C in games and then started stuttering which was a very annoying thing so I couldn't manage without a fan. Now mounting even the slowest 120mm fan at let's say 500 rpm will have minimal impact on acoustics while lowering...

Re: Thermalright Shaman on GTX570

I am a little worried if your cooler is installed correctly, I didn't get those temps heavily overclocked with stock cooler and little airflow, your load temps shouldn't be any higher than 60-65 degrees, it the heatsink flat, is the fan the right way round, they are worse than stock temps! Well, id...

Finally someone tried and reported back :o. What did you use as load the card? Did you connect the thermalright fan directly to the video card header? Last, if you don't mind (and feel it's safe), can you run an older version of furmark (like 1.6.x) and report temps. Thx. Actually I've installed Sh...

It's not that bad at idle, unless your goal is silence in a quiet environment Well, I am just surprised because with the tweaked HD 6850 I could be running Metro2033 and probably couldn't tell from 2 meters if the PC is on/off (in already quiet room) Their tech I contacted said this was normal to p...

Re: GTX 570 / GTX 580 / HD 6970 quiet on air (water maybe) ?

It may be quieter than before but it's neither quiet nor silent. At idle, fan is spinning at ~1400 RPM and I can hear it from my doorway from 4-5M away with the card inside a P183 case with the front door closed. Hmm... I wouldn't expect it to be that bad just from looking at the measured noise lev...

But you have to keep in mind that a GTX 580 + 125W CPU (I assume) may push the power draw in demanding games above 400W, so you also need a PSU that doesn't ramp much till 400W. I have Q9650 which is 95 TDP on stock settings - and I am running it on 1.21V @ 3.6 GHz - I guess it should be within 95W...

GTX 570 / GTX 580 / HD 6970 quiet on air (water maybe) ?

Hello, I don't see high-end cards to be discussed on SPCR too often, though I would definitely like to buy one (sometime before Crysis 2 launches) - the only "tiny" problem is I couldn't bear the loud stock fans on any of them. So is it possible to cool them quietly on air somehow ? By quiet I mean ...

Sounds pretty nice darkb. Less blurring is obvious a major bonus, particularly for competitive online fps. Not only less blurring but also less ghosting and less input lag - those are three different things & for 120 fps games it will be incomparably much more smoother to any 60 Hz panel. I am afra...

Hm... CRT is definitely the best - if it was possible to use it with 1920x1080@120Hz resolutions - which sadly isn't. I am afraid LCD on the same refresh rate will never feel as smooth, lagfree and ghosting free as CRT although some 120Hz might be getting close (or very close). Also note that there ...

I don't know exact specs of your system but I find it hard to believe that the 6850 card at idle could have "penetrate base noise level of system" - unless it was indeed a faulty card or you have in some way much more sensitive hearing than me. Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x

You can set fanspeed down to 0% in Afterburner, but you have to set your own fan speed curves under settings. Most fans are PWM controlled anyway though, so even if you set 0%, the fan will still likely be spinning. Even when set to 0% or any other value below 25%, gpu-z still reports it as if 25% ...

Hi everyone, this is quite helpful thread - I decided to buy my own Sapphire 6850 based on this info. My first impressions are very good so far. According to gpu-z the minimal rpm of the fan = 25% @1066 rpm. Setting it lower in ATI drivers won't change rmp, MSI afterburner does not allow lower value...
