Congradulations on the new rig, Neil.
Welcome back, Frenchie.
One place to go and I'll finally be in the SPCR top 10. Too bad the next predicted overtake is in four months! :p

Sweet Accidental Build
I threw together an ITX computer for the conference room at work (attached to a 64" plasma) and it turned out to be a great little rig! I disconnected the case fan so the only moving part is the 120mm fan in the PS which is right above the APU. Very quiet! 14w 35degrees idle 23w 45 degrees playing H...

Nice work cmh! Which reminds me I've got a little folding info... About three months ago I upgraded to the 7.1.24 client (just noticed that 7.1.33 is now available https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/wiki/BetaRelease) and resolved the issues I was having with running DDR3 @ 1333 on the A...

Unless you need more CPU than the 945 has to offer - why not recycle?
If you're looking for more GPU power - the MSI HD 6870 Twin Frozr II is fast and quiet.

I'm not making points like jhimanka, but I finally have the 1090T running well and finished the first uninterrupted month on it. Exceeded my 300k/mo goal by just a bit too! I wonder what’s going to happen when the AMD APU hardware starts showing up? Sorta blurs the line between the FAH GPU and CPU c...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog
Whelp - I got the 3800 folding again. Not sure it will last - but we'll see! The problem I'm having OCing the AMD 1090T is that FAH reports "core communication error" even if the system passes every stability test I throw at it. Boogers! Fortunately I built this system with a MB that can fit three v...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog
I dont understand CPU overclocking when it comes to folding. I have an AMD 1090T (3.2Ghz 6 cores). Stock it produces ~11,000ppd on 60xx projects and ~7,300ppd on 67xx projects. I right now I have it OCd up to 3.6Ghz and ppd is barely any better (12,000/7,700). OC with GPU folding seems to have a muc...

Thanks guys. The plan is to replace my P4 farm (six of them + one HD3850) and will be used only for folding. One idea I have is to start with a six-core AMD and a motherboard that has three PCI-e slots. I can start folding CPU only. If in the future there is a big PPD drop, GPU folding can be added....

Thanks frenchie! Yeah, looks like a minimal system with two 460GTX cards (18,000ppd) or one 470GTX (13,000ppd) can also be built for about $500 So its a pretty close call between GPU/CPU folding as far as hardware cost per ppd goes. Do you have any advice or experience that would swing the decision ...
