Re: Fanless PSU with (almost) no soldering for < $12
In my case, I went back to CompUSA and bought not one but two of the same model PSU (still cheap, < $12 each): Diablotek DA250. You're really in this for the experiment.. Because for the money, after a number of PSUs you would have been cheaper off buying a passive PSU right away. ;) Anyway, I once...

Re: Efficient ~250W PSU available already?
Is there any other good news in this area, or did I just sum it all up? Sounds like it. 8) There is virtually no development of super high efficiency PSUs for retail sale because of the lack of end user demand. There isn't much profit incentive either. This is entirely the realm of OEMs -- big guys...

Efficient ~250W PSU available already?
I already made a post about this almost 2 years ago , and wonder if there's been progress since then. Is there any PSU on the market now, 80+ silver or preferably gold, from 235-300W? I read about the HuntKey HK400-52PP 300W 80+ Gold PSU. HuntKey is normally a retail brand, but I haven't seen this o...

I love it! Any more pics of the entire front of the case? I have a similar build in my office at the church. On the outside it looks like a cheap PC-clone from the same period as yours. I even hacked in a pair of USB ports to add to the beauty. Thanks, I replaced the first picture. :) I used to use...

Silent PC in an ancient case: a blast from the past!
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/vBruznsSQBkFaC35CC8zWE2I/full.jpg And you thought I was kidding. http://tweakers.net/ext/f/MBdWS9RFpgOLjGOayucxVfdm/full.jpg This is my PC now, and I felt like posting it because it is quite silent. Here are the specs: Codegen bigtower, bought in.. The early 00's. Antec Ne...

the_noob: Welcome to SPCR ! The reason why you won't see them in the stores is called OEM . Those products are never meant to enter the PSU retail market, you will only find it in a retail computer, like a HP or Dell. It's a damn shame. What if we all start sending mail to Antec or another retail b...

Hey guys, just a quick reality check -- In your quest for high efficiency, you may be losing sight of simple things. Like that 0.5~1W a fan might pull in the PSU at idle... it might mean a percent difference in efficiency, but that doesn't change the fact that it's just a half watt. At 50W load, a ...

Welcome to SPCR W3ird_N3rd :) That is an interesting point you make about fans. Does anyone know if these power supplies are tested with or without a fan? What I mean is that at 20% that Fortron PSU managed ~89% efficiency with a 115V current. Sure a fan doesn't use 6w, but it may well use 1w (I've...

The 80 Plus website is interesting, and I made the following list for myself: Fortron FSP250-60PFK Hipro HP-305WA001-LF Delta DPS-255EB A Hipro HP-D2551AO O1LF Sorted by how interesting they are. I'd prefer the Fortron. These really make sense, heat that isn't generated in the first place does not n...
