Re: Thermalright HR-22 CPU Heatsink

For all the danger of weight and mounting system, and for the high price of 100 dollars, this thing needed to best all air coolers. It didn't, not in any situation or setting. A good cooler, to be sure, but all things considered, it's a sub-optimal purchase.

Re: Thermalright HR-22 spotted

I stand corrected. I didn't realize those twin tower coolers were so heavy. edit : The inferior mounting mechanism in the Orochi must be the deciding factor, then, otherwise by their own reasoning they should have opted out of reviewing those twin tower beasts. I find this strange, though, because w...

Re: Thermalright HR-22 spotted

This weighs about the same as the Scythe Orochi. Even with better mounting hardware, I can't see SPCR reviewing it for the same reason they refused to review the Orochi: it weights too damn much and is a danger to motherboards when mounted sideways.

Think what this thing might do with just one fan strapped to/near it!

Like the last two posters, I'm curious. More than that, actually. :)

Re: Second 140 mm Fan Roundup: Antec, bequiet!, Corsair, Scy

Thanks for the second 140mm roundup Gotta love when an $11 fan tops the chart. ++ Although with shipping, I can't find it for less than $13. Amazon has it at $12.17, but to get free shipping on it you must spend more than $25. But at least it's available, unlike the Phanteks. Even so, whatever you ...

Re: 140 mm Fan Roundup: Noctua, Phanteks, Xigmatek

In addition to the first three fans I mentioned, there are literally 6 other 140mm fans that come in under 11 USD. Maybe it's a mountain of crap, or maybe there are some real gems in there. I know many will want premium fans like the two 140mm Noiseblocker models tested given their good lineage, but...

140mm reviews are here! Thank you! It's nice to have a clear winner this time. Upcoming 140mm test suggestions (with reasons): Yate Loon D14- XX -12 series. At 9 or 10 USD, they're among the cheapest fans you can buy. They've been around longer than any 140mm fan I know. They come in basic black. I...

we were tempted to cut away the flow straightener but decided to wait for SilverStone to offer a version without it. Sweet merciful jebus, cut away that straightener! Re: Intel Next Unit of Computing Kit DC3217BY

New, cheaper Intel NUC (w/ Celeron 847 & lower-clocked GPU) coming next month

And then perhaps an i5, USB 3.0 version after that (heat issues?), followed by an NUC with Haswell after that.

Re: Hitachi Deskstar 5K3000 2TB 5940RPM Hard Drive

For a hi-cap storage drive it's between the WD20EARS and this 5K3000. The Hitachi gives more noise for more speed. If it's within my noise threshold, I'm golden. But I don't think I'll know before buying the drive.

Re: 140mm fan choices, horizontally mounted

Yeah, I didn't add the Thermalright TY-140 because its dimensions were funky and it is PWM. AFAIK, a rifle bearing is indeed a type of sleeve bearing. I separated it because I read that it has a "spiral groove in it that pumps fluid from a reservoir. This allows them to be safely mounted horizontall...

Re: 140mm fan choices, horizontally mounted

Now more than ever is the time for SPCR to do a 140mm fan roundup; the 140mm market is glutted. As I'm also in the market for a horizontally-mounted 140mm fan, I'll list some of what's available by bearing type: Ball Bearing BGears B-Blaster BG01565 Two Ball Bearing 1800 RPM Koolance FAN-14025HBK Tw...

As a result the VRM temperatures were a lot higher than the stock solution, even if the main heatsink was able to cool the GPU core more efficiently. Even if the more relevant information here is how far you can push the graphics card without crashing it in the pursuit of silence, this review begs ...

I'm considering this PSU, but I'm concerned about SATA 3 compatability. The Seasonic warranty covers an excellent 5 years, but SATA 3 is due out within a year, if not sooner. I couldn't stomach paying $200+ dollars for a PSU to see it become obsolete in such a short time. This new Seasonic is comple...
