Drilled two 1" holes underneath the HDD's and added the 92mm fan behind them. Average temps lowered by 15 C bringing them to around 40.

Couldn't get SpeedFan to register the hard drives for some reason. However, I installed a free version of Active Hard Disk monitor (also uses SMART) and this found the HDD's and read the temps no problem. Formatting the WD Green 2TB temps got close to 60 C, this is pushing it so I definitely want to...

I was also thinking of cutting a hole in front of the HDD's. This space is 100 mm so I could put in a smaller fan. Again, the main consideration here is how much additional noise a hole would create vs providing the required cooling capacity. The fan on the side is a 120 mm Noctua NF-S12B. Incidenta...

custom wood HTPC case, HDD's getting too hot

Ok, so I've nearly finished the HTPC wood case I've been working on. After having run this for about 5 hours, the HDD's are getting very hot to the touch so I think I'll need to increase the airflow somewhere. Here's what's in the case PSU - SeaSonic SS-300SFD 300W MOBO - ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD...

If you're looking to establish a link between background noise and physiological, or stress, response you might be interested in a field called Psychophysiology. Unfortunately, this field is relatively new and 'cross-disciplinary' which means there is a lot of non-sense out there. However, they do h...

Thanks Everyone! The sound card uses 155 Watts under load (see http://techreport.com/articles.x/14500/5), so I would need at least that much power. It seems 650W is definitely way overkill, so I guess I'll keep looking for a PSU. Maybe this one: ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT-ECO (http://www.newegg.com/P...

HTPC build list almost complete, review appreciated

I'll be using this primarily, to store/play music and watch shows over the internet. Planning on building my own case from wood so I'm trying to get most of the components settled to make sure I've got the measurements correct. I jumped the gun on some of them as they were on sale and I have already...

Thanks for the suggestion.. Unfortunately, this card doesn't seem to be available in the US. Here's what I'm currently thinking: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX, currently on sale on Newegg. Along with a Antec Mult-Station Premier Deluxe IR receiver and remote, for the remote access capabi...

Moving along

Ok, so I think I've come close to the dimensions I'm planning and got some of the components settled. Dimensions: 6"x18"x16" PSU: SeaSonic X650 Case Fans: 4 Noctua NF-S12B ULN 120mm As this is a HTPC it will be laying on the 18"x16" portion with the 6" as the height. I'm planning on placing two fans...

Update

Ok, so looking at some of the sponsored builds...I'm inspired to make a wood case for myself since I already have the wood tools I need, I just need to gather the dimensions. I'll likely make this out of Hard Maple since I've got some large pieces I haven't used. So...what's recommended for MOBO tha...

New HTPC using Asus Xonar D2X

Hi Everyone, Great forum. I'm planning on building a new HTPC using an ASUS XONAR D2X. So far that's pretty much the only component I've got, it sounds great but uses quite a bit of power. This will be hooked up to my existing stereo system and LCD TV. I think I'll use the optical out of the Xonar t...
