Re: LGA 775 cooler?
I have a several year old TYAN LGA 775 server board with a Xeon E3120 running as a home file server. What's a popular, quiet cooler for this socket that is moderately priced (< $35)? I think one with a 92mm fan should be sufficient. Is it better to use a horizontal cooler for LGA 775, instead of a ...

Re: Quiet cooler for i7-3770k /w space constraints
There isn't a lot that fits within 135mm. See: http://www.frostytech.com/top5_lowprofile_heatsinks.cfm If you are dealing with 135mm, You need to try a down draft cooler. Don't forget you need to add 25mm of breathing room which will leave you with about 110 mm of clearance. Consider (a) Noctua NH-C...

The hard data shows that Intel SSD failure rates seem to compare well with that of all comers, HDDs and SSDs... by a large margin.

Re: Why you should delay buying a Dual Core CPU
The days of the dual core CPU are not numbered but clearly relegated to the budget league. I suspect this will be the last time Intel can release a dual core processor in this price range. A better title would be why you should not bother buying a dual core processor, not delay it  That is a w...

Re: Why you should delay buying a Dual Core CPU
The title of this tread is seriously misleading. I'm pretty sure most everybody expects something about CPU-core-scaling and not about Intel's HD2000/HD3000 IGPs and it's speculative lack of acceleration in Windows 8, which doesn't concern people: - who'll stick with Windows 7 - who'll stick with L...

I've seen TIM product comparisons and the difference is about 1 degree.. The differences are typically a little bit greater. The 80 watt brick may end up delivering 70 watts. The 3570K in theory is capable of absorbing 77 watts all by itself. Isn't that cutting a a bit tight... in the case of an unexpected runaway process... say? No, the 80W brick can deliver 80W and it's a high quality brick. The TDP of 77W is not reach...

Will a 120W PicoPSU and 120W adapter be enough to power this machine, at sustained levels of moderate to high load ? The 2120T is potentially 35W. Add another potential 25 to 40 watts for the board. See: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1200-page5.html You are up to 75 watts. While the advice o...

Re: Two Noctua NF-P12 vs one NF-F12 PWM for CPU cooling
1. Two slower fans are better than one faster fan. They will generate more air flow with less noise... all things being equal that is. 2. PMW fans tend to be louder than non PMW fans... at least when running at the same speed. SPRC has tested the Noctua PWM fan and it is somewhat loud at its higher ...

I trust you mean so that the air cannot flow out the sides of the fin stack? It would force more of the airflow through the center, but this depends a lot on the details. If the fin stack was especially dense w/ narrow spacing, that might just create more back pressure. Yes that what I mean. Do you...
