Hi, I have a Sansung F3 1TB in a SQD. It's about the same as the F1 1TB I had previously. (bad sectors and security incident was reason for change) My SQD is decoupled and I find it does a good job of keeping the HDD noise down to bearly noticable level even when room is very quiet. I think you'd n...

Which is the most quiet of the fast (7200rpm) hard drives?

I'm looking to buy TWO fast 7200rpm hard drives for my new DAW setup, but I need them to be as quiet as possible. I plan on buying two Scythe Quiet Drives to place them in, and also do an elastic suspension for them (if that can even be done with the big Scythe Quiet drives??? Anyone?). I plan on ge...

Hi BlueSwan! I'm a musician and I've been planning a new DAW for some time and happened to read your thread - my planned setup is really similar to yours. :) Case: Antec P183 PSU: Antec CP-850 Motherboard: Asus P6X58D Premium CPU: Intel Core i7 930 Memory: Corsair XMS3 6144MB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz...

I think I found one online retailer that sells ST45NF: http://www.shopitonline.dk/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:2379254 Wow, well done. You're better at surfing danish web sites than I am! :D Have a look at the 2D (non-gaming) power consumption of various graphic cards 2D power consumption Nice! You're fast ...

Good questions ces. I'm looking for the same answers. I believe I have the same needs (or lack thereof) as you do, except that I want to be able to watch HD video and about once a year I do some VERY basic editing of family videos. I'll be using 64 bit Windows 7. No 3D gaming. Been reading loads of ...

I had a CP-850 in my system and it was rubbish noise wise. The fan was noisy at idle due to a ticking sound, I could also hear intermittent coil whine at night. So I replaced it with a Silverstone ST45NF which has been dead silent for me. WOW! I do not like hearing that. That fanless Silverstone ST...

OK. Reading a lot of threads. Thinking about getting a Scythe Kaze Master to control the speed of 4 fans. Sounds like a good idea?

Scythe 800RPM slip stream fans for rear exhaust, top exhaust, CPU one 500RPM slip stream in bottom chamber between hard drives and PSU you could get away with just 3/4 500RPM slip streams, I would say you could block off the top exhaust and just use the rear exhaust. I don't think 1200RPM slipstrea...

Wow! One thing is for sure and that is that this system will ROCK! Whether it will be quiet is another matter and one that I'll be VERY interested in since I'm also building a new Core i930 system. So let us know how it works out! :D

My RME is only Firewire 400 though. I've found a cheap PCI card called the Lacie Firewire 400 PCI that should have a TI chipset. I don't know if it's crap though, since its very cheap. It's around $30 in Denmark (and stuff is usually much more expensive in Denmark than in the US). It's only PCI and ...

Here's some food for thought, you mentioned the FW chipsets (which i've seen as a growing issue with DAWs lately, so I'm wondering what units you're running? I've actually done limited testing with other chipsets, and found that some Belkin 3 port cards work well with the Agere chipsets. My Powerbo...

Can't understand why so many people are trying to get you off the CP. At least I was recommending something cheaper and lower wattage, not those insanely powerful and expensive units. It's an amazing PSU, both in terms of performance and noise! Efficiency alone is not the way to judge a power suppl...

It is amazingly expensive (at least in Denmark). I would need to hear some very good arguments as to why I should pick it over the CP-850.

Any of the Enermax MODU82 PSU's are good. Take a look at the SPCR review on the 625 watt one. The Pro series and the MODU82 series are the same except the Pro series is not modular. But it is the same electronics. You can't go wrong with them, except they are being replaced with a new and improved ...

I'm just going to put this out in the air. Silent computer, i7 920. Somehow it doesn't quite sound right. Try the 8xx series? I mean really, it saves a lot of money, and with the lifespan (and power) of the machine, does future upgrading really matter? I mean, with a quad core + hyperthreading, wil...

I do acoustically treat my room (to some extent) and I do record fairly dry vocals. But it's obviously not good having a noisy PC within a couple of meters of recording.

what about recording vocals to one of those portable mp3 players? you wouldn't have to worry about fan noise on the computer. I'm recording on pro equipment all the way through. A Neumann u87 microphone, a Great River Me1NV preamp, a DIY PEQ1 EQ, a UA 1176 compressor into an RME Fireface 800 and fi...

Not really an option, I'm afraid. Or at least the very very very last resort. I'd like to first see if I can get a system which is quiet enough.

The P193 is unnecessarily big and has lots of fans. You'll be better served by a P183. Indeed. I mistakenly wrote P193 - I meant the P183. It's edited now! :) Motherboard is way overkill, get a cheaper X58 board, the cheapest one you'll find will suffice. OK, will look into it. It needs to be rock ...

Help with new 920 system that needs to be silent!

Dear SPCR's, First post here and yes, I’m asking for input! :) I’ve been reading reviews and the forum here on SPCR for several days now and have come up with a tentative system based on that. What I would love is some feedback on the system and possible ways to improve it. I also have a few que...
