FS: Funky AIO touchscreen PC for parts/project (UK)
I've got an all in one touchscreen pc for sale, but I'm selling for parts/project as some caps on the motherboard are beginning to fail, although it's currently working fine. Would make a good kids PC as the case is very sturdy, or a project if someone fancies a challenge ;) Spec: 2.4GHz Pentium 4, ...

What about building a duct to allow a big fan (or an array of smaller fans) to blow air into the front of the case?

That nexus case seems to be based on the Coolermaster Centurion 590, which is now discontinued, but you might still be able to find it somewhere for less than the nexus prominent case.

Re: Does anyone make fan vent covers?
I have the same case, I've swapped the side panels round (so that the two large openings are against the motherboard tray). I just used duct tape to cover the other openings - it works fine and hasn't fallen off like I thought it might.

Re: Where do I start, Toshiba? Fujitsu?
Have you tried cleaning the heatsink or replacing it's thermal paste? If it's clogged with dust, or the thermal paste between it and the CPU has dried up then the CPU will run hot, causing the fan to spin unusually fast.

Re: A WARNING TO YOU ALL
Why use this method? Because it only takes a couple of minutes and doesn't cost anything :) My motherboard can only control the CPU fan, and I only wanted the fan running a bit slower so didn't want to bother buying a fan controller for it. Accidentally wiring the PSU's +5V into the motherboard's g...

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case
There is a case similar to what you want to build: Chieftec BL-01B . Here's a review by overclockersclub . In summary: interesting case, loud fans. Where does it say loud fans? 800RPM should be fairly quiet. I doubt that case could manage the heat of a high end gaming PC though, it appears to be de...

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case
I was thinking along the lines of wooden barriers. Somebody used them before in a HTPC build that was built into a TV unit, but I can't find it to give you a link. They probably wouldn't be of much use unless your system was pretty quiet (all fans <1000RPM), but in that case then the HDD would be lo...

Re: Homebuilt quiet PC case
If you moved the HDD closer to the PSU then you could lose the lower intake fan (and possibly also install a noise-reducing barrier). Make sure all the PSU cables are long enough when designing and building the case. I know its common sense but its easy to overlook the difference a wee bit of cable ...

Re: 140mm fan choices, horizontally mounted
Has anyone tried the BitFenix Spectre fans?
The Non-LED 140mm Spectre runs at 1000RPM on 12v (should undervolt to a nice quiet speed), Fluid Dynamic Bearing so no issues with horizonal mounting, and very importantly, cheap! (I can get them in the UK for £5! )

WARNING to 7V fan modders
Most of you will be familiar with the 7V mod, and the accompanying possibility of damaging the PSU. However, there is little talk of other dangers, specifically; what happens when the 7v mod is used when the fan's molex adapter also has a male 3 pin attached to the motherboard with a ground wire on ...

Re: Cisco PIX 515 Replacement Fan
Is this it? You could replace or slow down the current fan, though it is extremely cramped so it would probably still be too noisy. If you have space you could cut a hole in the top and mount a larger, slower fan outside of the case. A 120mm fan, for example, could shift the same amount of air while...

I might give some blu-tak a go first, I'd prefer to avoid sealing the entire coils in glue/silicon for fear of overheating them.
I'll post back when I get time to experiment some more.

The VRM toroids on my Asrock K10N78FullHD-hSLI mobo squeal a lot when the machine is idle. When folding@home runs they 'beep' regularly (about 1 beep per second). Re: PCI Fan or upgrade case fans in order to cool PCI card?
I would expect that you should be able to undervolt most PCI blower type fans, although I have no idea what they will sound like, especially the really cheap ones which will probably have noisy bearings.

Re: PCI Fan or upgrade case fans in order to cool PCI card?
Can you move the Ceton card into a different slot? If so, maybe try experimenting to see if it runs cooler in different positions. Adding a blower-type fan (or 2?) exhausting air in between the cards would probably help a good deal, although I don't know how you would find a quiet one, there aren't ...

Re: Molex-PWM splitter
Something like this ? That splits the PWM signal 3 ways, but draws the power from the PSU. One issue that might annoy some people is that all 3 PWM leads are all attached to the one plug, so you will have 3 wires surrounding the CPU_fan header on your mobo. If that was likely to bother you then you ...

Can I ask what your client plans to do with 37 5.25-inch drivebays?
I think you should sit a SFF PC next to it for size comparison. In fact, you could probably hide a few in there without anyone noticing.

But I can't control the fans connected to my power supply can I? Just in some not common and often rather inefficient way, afaik. The most often used one is to detach the PSU fan cable from its socket, take it outside the PSU, maybe using an extension, and then connecting it to a motherboard header...

PSUs usually make a low whooshing noise due to air turbulence inside the PSU, try sticking something (non conductive!) into the fan for a few seconds to determine if it is the PSU.

To undervolt fans connected directly to PSU to get either 5V or 7V: • The 5V and 7V tricks: Do-it-yourselfers often tap into the voltage lines available from any PSU. Three conveniently available voltages can be obtained from the standard 4-pin Molex connector: 12V (yellow), 5V (red), and 7V (the di...

What about a rack on top to hold a frying pan or something, because if you really need a 120mm fan going at 5200 rpm to keep your graphics card cool, there must be an incredible amount of heat coming from the system. Or if they added another of those "Ultra-high performance Delta" monstrosities to t...

I've moved my system into the CoolerMaster 590 with the Seasonic S12 380W. I can't hear them at 5v but they don't move much air so I'm hoping to 7v them at ...
