For the best reliability now and for the many years you own this computer you should:
> never overclock
> never overvolt
> never undervolt
> only buy QVL memory or Kingston ValueRAM and test it for at least 24 hours
Some people say Reliability is Job 1.

Perhaps you could try the All-in-1 Tuning Software utility and compare it to the speed fan hackware.

A U-shaped door sweep will block most of the noise.

Re: Qualifed RAM and Qualifed Vendor for RAM Question
I have not yet found a mainboard that did not work 100% reliable with Kingston ValueRAM. Go to the memory configurator at: http://www.kingston.com/ This is the memory test I recommend: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp Microsoft calls it "Windows Memory Diagnostic" which a stupid name as is bo...

Re: Build: Lian Li PC-X2000F, Silverstone FT02, or Antec P28
You could build a quiet positive pressure system with an Antec 280, or Solo II, if you block the fan position(s) on the top and leave the door closed. Scythe 120mm PWM fans don't use very much power and you can safely run 3 of them, 2 fans on the front of the chassis and a fan on the CPU heat sink, ...

Re: CPU and motherboard advice for a SOLO case?
I'd like to build a PC that's very quiet at 1m. To me very quiet at 1m means that the computer would make an almost imperceptible non-annoying sound when you got to a 1 meter distance. This very quiet at 1m situation would mean that the computer was around 1 dBa louder than the ambient noise level ...

I have seen builds with original design cases where the case fan was so much more powerful than the PS fan the there was no air flowing through the PS.ntavlas wrote:...with the typical placement at the top is that the psu fan is often competing for airflow against the rear case exhaust.

Re: PSU on top: why?
IMO, I don't think there's any reason to move the PSU to the bottom location apart from marketing. It has just become a hype. Thermal gains are negligible. The "convection theory" falls apart if there are any fans in the case. In 1998 you had generic beige boxes with moulded fascia. In 2004 you had...

Re: CPU and motherboard advice for a SOLO case?
How much extra cooling will the case need besides the included 120mm TrueQuiet in back? 1 upgraded fan will be enough. Will I need a front intake fan, or would I be safe with just that and the heatsink fan? You'll want an upgraded CPU cooler. I think I'll want a filter for the PSU grill--dusty envi...

Re: Quiet and small gaming machine
Some people would consider 19 dBA to be quiet and others would not. 19 dBA might be good enough for you. The referenced page describes a test configuration with a HD 5450 and the 18 cm Air Penetrator running on low/9V and producing 19 dBA of noise. The 9 volt feed for the fan can be achieved with a ...

My system has no direct noise paths to my ears because the top fan position is blocked and the air inlet area on the front is double baffled. I use only one fan in the upper chamber of my P180 case. Re: Looking for opinions on case for HTPC
OOPS, I forgot about the top vent on the Solo II.
I don't think that you need a fan on the back if you use 2 fans on the front as the air has no choice but to exit where you allow.

Re: Looking for opinions on case for HTPC
Some air flow through the x400 will be needed and so you might have to partially block the rear chassis fan position so that the PS gets some of the air flow. Or, you could save some money and get a PS with a fan.

Re: Looking for opinions on case for HTPC
I would go with the Solo II with a positive pressure system using 2 fans on the front of the chassis and a fan on the CPU heat sink. I would replace the solid slot covers with vented slot covers. The air will exit out all the unblocked holes on the back of the chassis. Those Scythe fans don't use ve...

I'm considering buying two and running in RAID 1
I've experienced very annoying noises from a RAID 1 system and would suggest using WD Green drives.
In any case for a quiet build I would suggest using WD Green drives.

Re: PSU on top: why?
Many modern cases still have a top-mounted PSU. I was wondering: why? The original ATX Chassis was designed so that the PS fan would cool the CPU heat sink via a duct and many systems with low wattage CPU's are still built this way. What's the disadvantage of bottom-mounted PSUs? You will have to s...

Perhaps the vibrations are being caused by the fan. Perhaps:
- you could change the top fan
- you don't need the top fan
- the fan could be rubber mounted

As you will be having fans in this system, you could save some money by getting a PS with a fan.
I don't think that the AcoustiPack will will have noticeable effect because of the fan noise.
