to me, llano is a stepping stone. amd will be changing up their gpu architecture soon to be stronger in gpu compute, and we know that their new cpu arch is right on the horizon too... it feels like theyve just put this together to prove to themselves that it can be done. maybe to get a bit more of a...

Re: What about alternative coolant fluids?
it'd be more stable at higher temperatures, but you'd be having a few more issues than your fluid breaking down if you did hit those temps. that and i doubt it would heat as efficiently. i would actually guarantee that much. then, pumping it would also be more of a chore because of its viscosity. mo...

Re: "Fully" Modular PSUs
I really like the idea of a short cable set, though. Are the cables universal, or is there a proprietary connector on the PSU end of the cable? Pretty much all my cases are small, so it would be really cool (to me, anyway) if modular cables became standardized so I could pick and choose the right s...

the only psu that comes to mind is the Silverstone Strider Plus ST50F-P 500W. it'll run you about $80, and if you want the short cable set thats another $20... but it would seem like a reasonable choice.

Re: How much power for a dual socket F server board?
i'd venture a guess that it might be a bit too close for comfort close at 350. the nvidia chipsets were more power hungry, and having 12 sticks of ddr2 is going to hurt you as well. that said, i'd try it with a good single rail 400w unit. see what your idle draw is then start stressing cores while w...

looking at chenbro's site for the case, i'd say there wont be a problem. 100% sure. this plate is removable(it probably won't even be there if you buy the case without a psu) to fit other standard form factor power supplies. so yeah, your unit/cage will fit. http://www.chenbro.com/assets/2006/03/20/...

i would advise against using a slipstream mounted horizontally, its bearing wont last very long in that position. iirc the ty140 should do very well at low speeds... another fan to look at is the prolimatech 140mm from the genesis review. it looks like the 600rpm thermalright 120mm fan from the new ...

Re: suspension of HDD on Define R3
if you string up little shelves in the r3 around the metal bits that would normally hold the drive sleds, you should be able to rest the drives on top of the suspension material; though i dont think you'll be able to have the space to stretch any material over the top of the drive. as long as you're...

One question though ... wouldn't hanging vertically the drive have any consequence on the HDD? somehow you have the feeling this has been engineered for flat use. Also is there any benefit on choosing 2,5" vs 3,5"? 1- nope. you can mount them in any orientation you want. 2- they will generally be q...

im of the opinion that if someone makes an informed decision, then it's their weight to bear. the regulation of these choices should be limited to public areas. i dont care if someone gets trashed every weekend at home, but i dont want to deal with them on the road, or in a public place like a park ...

as long as the fan uses 3pin or 4pin fan headers, and not exclusively a molex header, that fan controller will be able to power it properly. I know there is some issue with whether or not a fan is PWM there is no such issue with manual fan controllers, thats strictly with automatic fan control on so...

600w psu seems like massive overkill. as for the video card, iirc Vegas uses cuda, not opengl, so you'll be wanting a nvidia graphics card if youre looking into gpu acceleration. if youre willing to stretch into the gts450, the msi cyclone is said to be a very quiet cooler; as are the gigabyte windf...

The dirty little secret is when you have 2 or more active monitors on one video card and are idling: - ATI cards will still idle GPU clock, but memory clock runs full speed. In the 5770, this means an extra 30W. ATI claims this is for system stability. - I've heard NVidia is worse and doesn't downc...
