Re: Mugen 2 RevB backplate on Gigabyte mobo
The dots you are describing could be one of two things: either "through-holes" or "vias". A through-hole is a hole drilled through the board and plated with metal so that it connects to signal traces or planes on the board. The larger capacitors around the CPU have wires coming out of them that are...

Re: Mugen 2 RevB backplate on Gigabyte mobo
It works, it's been a pain to mount everything as the hole in the case was not exactly over the backplate, so i had to mount it first and then put the motherboard into the case. Overall my new system seems quiet, definitely my quietest build so far (not a hard task being my first try at reducing noi...

Re: Mugen 2 RevB backplate on Gigabyte mobo
Another thing, a friend told me that the backplate is made of something that doesn't conduct current, so if it touches something it shouldn't short-circuit anything. That makes sense, if i had to make a backplate i'd do it in that way to be sure. That plus the foam should be enough. Relata refero. ...

Re: Mugen 2 RevB backplate on Gigabyte mobo
The backplate covers a few of those silvery dots, from what i can see there are 2 of them for every small cylinder on the upper side of the motherboard (i guess those are capacitors, my knowledge on these things is rather small). On that pic if you check near the lower-right screw you'll see a coupl...

Mugen 2 RevB backplate on Gigabyte mobo
Hi guys, i got a question for you. This is the first time i mount a big heatsink that needs a backplate... i checked here http://www.scythe-eu.com/forum/mainboard-compatibility/764-mugen-2-mugen-2-rev-b-compatibility-list.html and found that my Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 is compatible with the Scythe Muge...

Re: Quiet nvidia 460 GTX
I'm waiting for my new Gigabyte Windforce 460 OC (715MHz), i'll let you know in a week or two. But checking reviews here and there it should be on the quiet side.

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x
That's good news, but if the overall cooling is worse (due to 6850 needing more power and not being vapor-x) the fan has to spin faster at load to keep temperatures low. It all depends on how faster it has to spin. I'm just trying to use logic, i'm new to quiet/silent builds and still learning a lot...

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x
To micksh: consider that Furmark stresses your GPU a lot . You should never see that fan spinning so fast under normal circumstances. If a fan is quiet running low but sounds like an helicopter at full... well, if it never goes to full it's definitely not a problem ^^ Now i'll go slightly offtopic, ...

Re: HDD Reliability - Best Buys? Musts to Avoid?
To get a better idea about WD number of platters i usually go read here: http://rml527.blogspot.com/2010/09/hdd- ... abase.html
If the model you've chosen might be with a different number of platters the best thing i'd suggest is asking your vendor to tell you the full code.

I don't know about idle, but in the link below they say the fan never went faster than 40% during their tests. Not exactly what you asked for, but it's something

Re: First quiet build, tips are welcome
Thanks, i really appreciate your fast and exhaustive answer. Regarding fans i checked again SPCR review on slipstreams and i agree with you, the 800rpm seem more than adequate for me, especially because they'd go at their full speed, so no need for a controller. Pro87+ 600W is ~25€ more than Pro82+ ...

First quiet build, tips are welcome
Hello guys, first time poster here. This might be a quite long post in a non perfect english, you've been warned... My goal: a quiet pc with good cooling, without modding too much (or at all, i'm definitely not that good at it). Main use would be gaming, internet and CAD programs. I dont' ...
