Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard
There is a bios changelog here: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22409/eng/KB_0048_ReleaseNotes.pdf The biggest fix in the bios revisions was the packet loss fix IMO. Later BIOS will not accept CPU off the compatibility list. Thanks for this interesting tidbit of information! I got this board before ...

Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard
I'm just surprised because I always assumed that everyone else had lower power numbers than me. Other people on these forums always seem to post lower power numbers than what I have. Plus WiFi accounts for about 2W and each network adapter plugged in usually adds a Watt too, that is why I expected y...

Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard
Nice review. I use a DQ77KB in my home server/router. I am surprised your idle power consumption is as high as it is though, mine idles at 16w, with a similar WD Blue HDD and constantly running both ethernet ports and a mini-pcie wireless card in access point mode. I always thought my Dell AC adapto...

Re: Which Intel motherboard?
Intel's DQ77 boards are targetted more towards business workstations. You will notice it has an extra lan port; the red lan port's primary is supposed to be for Intel's Active Management KVM (though you can use it as a regular network port too). The DQ77 also supports ECC and Sandy/Ivy Bridge Xeons.

Re: 65W TDP A10-5700 review
They tested the Intel Processors on a z77 motherboard which is not a very power efficient chipset. I have no doubt if they had used an H67, H77, or H75 the Core I3 would have had lower idle power consumption. I find that with systems with very low power consumption the motherboard choice has a bigge...

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
Liquid Pro does carry some risks, but if you have already performed the riskiest part, which is the IHS removal, applying a little conductive TIM underneath the IHS doesn't sound so risky. I don't see any exposed traces or capacitors underneath the IHS. The bonding of Liquid Pro is a serious drawbac...

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
From the results I've seen on overclock.net you can shave off roughly another 15 degrees switching from Arctic Silver 5 to Coollaboratory Liquid Pro. http://www.overclock.net/t/1283797/ivy-bridge-3770k-de-lid-liquid-pro-as-5-tested-amazing-results I've been thinking of delidding my 3770k as well, bu...

Re: pfSense router - small Sandy Bridge?
I've performed various tests on USB 2.0 hard drives and network adapters and I've found that the real world varies between 20-30MB/s which is equals 160-240 Mbit/s. I have found that ethernet usually has more overhead and real world performance loss than USB, but neither have any difficulty staying ...

Re: pfSense router - small Sandy Bridge?
I am running a router/server off a DH61AG and M350 case. I solved the 2nd ethernet port problem by using a USB ethernet adapter. My gigabit USB ethernet adapter is USB 2.0 which would technically limit it to 480 Mbit/s, so I use the USB ethernet adapter for my WAN port since my internet connection i...

Re: Jetway NF9C-2600 Atom N2600 Mini-ITX Motherboard
Nice review. I've been eagerly awaiting a Cedar Trail review that extensively tested power consumption. I am surprised it's idle power consumption has not improved much of past generations of Atoms. I was expecting the idle power consumption to be closer to Nettops with the addition of Speedstep but...

Re: Advice for a [performance] nettop
If you really want to go prebuilt you can go with something like the viewsonic VOT550. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/vot550.htm Or how about a laptop with the lid closed? If you decide to go with a self build I would recommend a i3/i5 mini-itx and something like a minibox m350 case http://www.mi...
