Re: Experience with Piezo fans?

It's really interesting from a cooling efficiency point of view (2cfm for 30mW is awesome), but the prices are prohibitively high. The price really needs to come down more than an order of magnitude to become something recommendable.

Re: Gigabyte A75M-UD2H Mainstream FM1 Motherboard

It might not be a mistake in itself (i.e. the measurements may be correct), but don't you agree that 150W power draw for a 100W TDP chip - TDP that is defined by that company as the worst-case continuous power draw under any load - would indicate massive losses along the line?

Re: Nexus NX-5000 Silent PSU

As I'm reading up on the birth of PSU reviews at HardOCP, JonnyGURU and Hardwaresecrets I find that everything I have said has really been said before many times over (wow, what a surprise). The following link is an interesting thread and a testament to how much in-depth knowledge (and frankly, nitp...

Re: U. of Bath distributes DC to power library PCs

I'm pretty sure they will save money as long as they didn't spend an absolute fortune on it. One big central ac-dc converter can improve (quite massively) power factor and efficiency and reduce the total cost significantly. Big power converters are much easier to make 95+ % efficient with near-perfe...

Re: ISK300-150, Foxconn H67S, Sandy Bridge Pentium G620T bui

The efficiency of Antec's PSU is most likely terrible. I've seen people consistently get 15W-ish figures with the Antec ISK300-65. I don't know much about the 150W version, but I'd be surprised if this was the major cause. I get a similar load temp without a case fan with the stock heatsink/fan at ...

Re: Nexus NX-5000 Silent PSU

You're implying one hell of a dangerous assumption here: that copying other people's testing criteria (or to be more precise, not trying different testing methods and criteria) is somehow preferred. I'll explain as I go along. W/ regard to SPCR PSU testing, the only test mentioned by multiplexer tha...

Re: Is fanless an option? NC9C-550-LF

Your temperatures seem pretty reasonable for such a simple heatsink on a low-power machine. If you're willing (and you seem to be willing) to do some modding you should very easily get this computer cooled without the need for fans. As a comparison, I built a core 2 duo (well, Pentium Dual-Core E520...

Re: Nexus NX-5000 Silent PSU

Power supply reviews on SPCR focus on rough efficiency, acoustics and thermals. I don't believe the reviewers have any of the equipment necessary to do accurate (withing 0.1%) measurements, nor any of the other more fundamental power supply testing (transient test, crossload test, input and output n...

Well, there's no need to apologize, it's your forum and your rules. But can you elaborate on my further questions?

edit: apparently, the first two posts need to be approved :P That answers one question already :)

About the approval system and moderation/missing posts?

It occurs to me that this forum is a bit slow and cumbersome to use compared to other tech sites. That in itself is not that much of a problem, but it's also a bit unclear as to why this is. So i've got a few questions for you: - The site and/or forum are down very frequently (compared to other site...

Re: Gigabyte A75M-UD2H Mainstream FM1 Motherboard

I'm surprised you haven't commented on the apparently dramatically inefficient power circuitry on this board. In idle, 8.1W is drawn through the AUX12V connector while the APU itself should only consume roughly 2W. At full load, this 100W TDP chip draws nearly 150W of power through the AUX12V connec...
