Re: Intel Pentium G4400 & Intel H110 Power Consumption: 15 w
I think this is a good result, at least compared to not too long ago when around 20 Watt idle was considered a marketable "green" intel mobo. Intel may have squeezed a few more milliwatts out of its new lineup of CPUs, but I guess most of the power savings come from the motherboard; I wonder how muc...

Re: 500W "Titanium" efficiency PSU: Andyson N500
At least in western Europe, there is one Titanium certified unit on the market under 1kW: the 850W Super Flower Leadex Titanium (SF-850F14HT). The current retail price is about $240 USD. If Andyson succeeds in mass producing its N500, perhaps we will see this "titanium" unit for under $100, which wo...

500W "Titanium" efficiency PSU: Andyson N500
Read the review at Anandtech . Andyson claims that this PSU has been certified 80 Plus Titanium, but it doesn't appear in the 80 Plus database. From Anandtech's measurements it looks great efficiency wise, but Anandtech tests at 230W. So it remains to be seen whether this PSU would actually pass 80 ...

Re: Cooler Master V550S
But unfortunately they cut the 450W model from the new line. The fact that they had a really high-efficiency-at-low-loads model in the 400W price class (i.e., not much more than the Seasonic G-360 costs) made this VS-series stand out. I imagine it will be much harder for the VS-series to be successf...

durable laptop on a budget?
Hey guys, A friend asked me for a budget notebook recommendation and one of her main concerns was durability (longevity): my friend wants the laptop to last for five years (given normal use). And to be honest I have no idea how to compare laptops on that metric. I know laptop batteries do not usuall...

Well, it's two months later and nothing has happened. The PSU has not even appeared on FSP's consumer website, so it seems clear they are not intending to make it available in the retail market. I inquired about it with both FSP Global and FSP Europe, yet neither have seen fit to respond. Perhaps we...

Re: Seagate NAS HDD 4TB
Seagate's solution has one important advantage: Lower price. The US$160 street price of the Seagate NAS HDD 4TB is quite a bit cheaper than the US$190 WD Red 4TB. Oddly enough, the Seagate is more expensive than the WD Red here. Also, if one were to calculate the power consumption cost difference o...

Re: Will 250W HP power supply work for ATi 7770?
According to HP, the part number for the PSU is 5188-2622, which at least some of the time corresponds to the delta DPS-250QB-4 B, and I've seen two revisions of this PSU floating around the internet so far, one of which would have ample juice to power this card on the 12V line, but the other wouldn...

This would be really cool if it happens. The 80 Plus database is chock full of low-power, high efficiency units that never make it to market (or perhaps only as part of certain complete system lines from HP and the likes, particularly those sold only to businesses/governments).

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
1) I was wondering if there's any reason to go for Platinum rating when choosing fan-cooled PSU? (considered that it should run cool anyhow...) Aside from reducing power consumption, efficiency also has an impact on the amount of heat a fan has to remove from the PSU. But that's only the theory of ...

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
You can expect your system peak power draw to be about about 300W (assuming you aren't overclocking). A 500W supply doesn't seem unreasonable (but neither does a 400W or 450W unit). I would suggest either the Be Quiet Straight Power 10 500W or the Enermax Platimax 500W as your budget permits. Both s...

Yes, many websites don't offer quality results for hard-to-quantify things like noise and power consumption (!).
The good news is that with SPCR, we know that everything they measure, they measure well.

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
The question with passive PSUs is is that the heat spreads to your other components and the CPU fan and/or case fans will have to spin harder, generating noise. It is much preferable to have an active PSU with a quiet fan.

Re: Multiple fanless power supplies?
I am wondering if it's possible to power the GPUs' PCIe via one fanless power supply and the CPU, motherboard, fans, and so forth with another? There's nothing patently impossible about that. You'll have to rig one of the PSUs to start up without an ATX connector, but it's not difficult. I realize ...

Re: advise on cooling of a new build
For cheap coolers I would suggest this budget coolers review as a starting point. Perhaps the $17 Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 Pro Rev. 2 would be a good match, or even the Logisys if your budget can handle an extra fan. Now for the PSU. According to Guru3D , a system with this GPU will draw up to 200W....

Some Intel processors have a "Turbo boost" feature allowing them to increase their clock rate to a certain manufacturer set frequency on demand. Re: Acer Aspire V 11 and E 11
Going by the figures in the V11 review the performance of these Bay Trail pentiums is very impressive given the power consumption. It looks like the figures are 'competitive' with a mobile core i3 CPU, even if perhaps not with the i5 tested. The lack of fan is interesting, but from the sounds of rev...

There are few other reviews available, such as this one, but they make little sense because they only measure the board with a discrete GPU installed. It seems to me that if you want to go "eco" the very first step is to get rid of your power-guzzling GPU.

Maybe they're using less materials & energy to make it? Or it is supposed to last longer? If either were the case, you'd think they would make a point of it in their advertising, but it seems they pretty much focused on power consumption. The measured power is quite suspect tho, cus it's the AC pow...
