Well if you read his project closely, you'll see: "Just felt the heatsink now, its in the high 40s (50 = pain, i go by that *g*) (yes CENTIGRADE you american f**ks)" My "social intolerance" was meant to emphasize his social intolerance. You'll notice there are no "*g*"s after that statement, and fo...

More power to the engines, Scotty!

I have two of those Sunon KD1212's. I'm pretty sure they are PMB but probably nott the 3. They blow like crazy but are also very loud. My guess is that you inadvertently undervolted them. Maybe even to 5 volts. My advice is to rewire. IF you really need the cooling. But think about whether you reall...

Speedfan download problems

BTW, anybody have trouble downloading the latest edition of Speedfan? Nope, I just downloaded it in about 9 seconds on my 1.5Mbps ADSL connection. I tried it again late last night but no luck. I have cable modem connection. First attempt on a PC with download agent. Second attempt on another PC wit...

Re: Isnt it just Math?

teknerd, you may need to check your math. A 29%dB reduction from 55dB is 16dB Sleeper: Sound measurement in dB is not linear. An increase of 10dB doubles the sound while a decrese of 10dB cuts the sound in half, Holy CR_P! Man I did not mean to start something here. I only meant to point out that t...

And I was also was thinking that would be an ideal setup for going with a shared watercooling setup. I'm a total watercooling noob, are there any practical constraints on system length, or is the answer to just get a bigger pump??? Man I wish I could tell you for certain. When it comes to wat...

Re: My First SILENT PC!!

I'm building a system and I've made my choices about ordering these after alot of research (unless someone has something better). Any suggestions? Yes, is 350 watts enough? Both your CPU and Video card use a lot of watts, so I heard. Perhaps you should consider 400 to 450? Can anyone confirm this o...

Art Deco PSU muffler by Dave Benz

Anybody see this PSU muffler by Dave Benz? http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/decobox/default.asp?page=2 Where was this guy a few days ago. I actually (almost) finished an external one with a styrofoam cooler attached by velcro.... not pretty enough to post. But should be quite functional. I picked it...

Isnt it just Math?

teknerd wrote:While the article does have some good points, the author obviously doesnt know much about sound measurement, seeing as he noted that a 16dB drop in noise was only a 29% drop.

Water cooling may be cost effective (maybe)

Why not try water cooling?
If you have three PCs in proximity of each other, you may be able to save cash by using only one pump and one resevoir.

I'd still go with the 120mm.
You can undervolt it to 7v and it would move 40cfm at only 20db.
Thats only 8 cfm less than 2 80mm L1a's, but at less than half the noise (20db vs 24db)!

Try duct tape or packing tape instead.
Masking tape is not meant to be permanent, and may fall off.

plastic hose

EDIT: I just looked at the Badong and that's what it seems to be, except my dryer hose cost all of $ 1.92 8) You should try to replace with aluminum dryer hose. It would look better and disipate heat better. Only problems would be: 1) would it resonate sound more? 2) is it flexible enough.? Bob

Actually it's possible to try a hole drill, the kind that lets you drill holes in wood for door knobs. I don't have a link, I do know someone did it for the Chilly case which is thick aluminum, course took like an hour. Yeah. I just used one that I bought from Ace Hardware. But it is maide for door...

Re: 14db v. 18db v. 20db ??? Can't decide...

Hey - I'm brand new to the forums, and have a question... I know that decibels are on a log scale, so each 10 db means a doubling in noise, right? Well... that would mean that the new FSB PSUs with a 120mm fan ("under 20db") are more than 50% louder than a SilenX 14db PSU...... mmm.... I think 3-4 ...
