I just took a look at your pictures. My instincts tell me that you're using too much TIM. You should clean it off of both the CPU and HSF using >80% alcohol (not rubbing alcohol, it contains oils) using a lint-free cloth. Then apply a blob of TIM (ArcticSilver 5 or Ceramique) about the size of a gra...

What is this card like stock for heat and noise? The stock cooler is really noisy. It's gotta go. I'd second the recommendation of the ATI silencer or the Zalman heatpipe cooler (noiseless). Heat on the other hand is a different matter. When I upgraded my GPU from a Radeon 9500 Pro to the Radeon 98...

I've heard from another thread that the smooth coatings on the convoluted melamine break down after a few years into dust. The melamine is OK but the coating is the problem. I can't remember where I read that but it was reported here somewhere. I think the problem was with the Sonex brand specifical...

I just recieved my order of fans from CompGeeks today. And there's a sleeper(surprise) among these fans. It's the all-silver 80mm aluminum frame fan for $3.50 called Typhoon . This thing is quiet, quieter than the Yate Loon aluminum fan with the black fins. The model # on the label is FM802512M. Th...

I'm looking at FSP350-60THN-P on the microdirect list you linked to. I'm trying to work out if its PF or not, If I had to guess, I'd guess that it is NOT Power Factor corrected. The reason being that most active power factor correction PSUs have a label over the 115/230VAC switch that says "Full Ra...

Damn, you're right! I always see the aluminum or LED Evercool fans. The blade pitch/design is identical.EndoSteel wrote:Mr_Smartepants

Re: Nexus 120mm query
For mounting the Nexus 120mm fan which would be more suitable, the FM35 or the FM44? To answer your question bluntly, neither. That's because the nexus fan has a solid core fan screw hole where other fans are open. You need to cut the plastic between the two edges of each fan hole (front to back) t...

Need help identifying this Delta fan
I removed this fan from a clients brand new HP pavillion machine (replaced it with a thermistor NMB fan). His 3.2G Prescott P4 was pumping so much heat into the case that this low flow fan couldn't exhaust the heat fast enough. The processor was almost in constant thermal throttling mode. http://hom...

To go back to the original problem: Since the stock fan is no longer moving, two things may have gone wrong: 1) Your fan itself is broken 2) Your "Fan Only" circuit is malfunctioning First, you should disconnect/reconnect your fan connectors in case they came unseated. Then, you should disconnect th...

Who's to say that overclocking is bad? Many of us around here overclock AND stay quiet. Besides, why can't you have both a radiator and finned reserator (non-zalman)? Check out these finned resevoirs from Wet & Chilly Chips http://www.overclock.co.uk/productimages/17651.jpg Just include one of these...

*bump* I just ran across this site during a search as well. Anyone have any insight on these fans? They're ball bearing and their specs seem overly optimistic. They've got a fairly large air gap between the vanes at the hub. I don't recognize them. But at 10.50 UK pounds each ($20 USD) I'm hesitant ...

The only other major quabble it may present to me personally is the location of the duct. I can see this becoming an issue for some motherboards (A64's come to mind with their sometimes centered CPU socket That CPU duct is in fact named after INTEL'S Thermally Advantaged Chassis. :P I'm sure that I...

Re: Computer desk to case intake duct
...and maybe line the area between the bottom hole with foam rubber to ensure all intake air comes from under the desk exclusively. I just reread that statement and realized how dumb that actually sounded. My Sonata's intake has been modded to open up airflow but only opened up to roughly 1" x 3" (...

Re: Radeon 9200Pro too hot @ 72C ?
I have a Connect 3D Radeon 9200Pro with standard passive heatsink....Slipping a temp probe between the fins revealed a surprising 70-72C  This was with the case open. Wow. 72C, damn that's hot! Antec 3000B + Seasonic PSU instead of Sonata + stock PSU I would agree with this. From the research I have done the 3000B looks like it has the best bits from the AMB and BQE and gives you the option of putting in your own power supply. I'd agree with this as well. I'm not too fond of my Sonata and...

Loks good. Another thing to plan for is the exhaust. If the back of this computer cubby is closed, I'd reccomend cutting a vent hole near the top. If it's open, I'd reccomend blocking most of it with MDF and allowing space for cabling and exhaust. Nope, the whole back of the desk where the PC sits ...

Computer desk to case intake duct
Hi all. Here's a pic of my latest idea. My desk has a 3 inch plenum area underneath where my Sonata case sits in our kitchen. The desk sits off of the floor by about 1/2" all the way around. We have stone tile floor in that room so the air near the floor is much cooler than inside the desk alcove. I...
