Re: Phanteks discontinued long time SPCR favourite PH-F140HP
I bought the original PH-F140HP from Amazon.ca a few months back, maybe something changed in their manufacturing, but the acoustics weren't great to me. I had about 5 samples and they all sounded similar, so that didn't help. The HP II were even worse though, and sound completely different than the ...

Re: Noctua's new fans coming
There's a few interesting things at Computex, my favorites being from Be Quiet! Would definitively love to see SPCR review the Noctua, Be Quiet! and other products that are going to come out in the next few months. Perhaps we should start a donation thread to make it happen? :) If it's possible to g...

Re: Gaming machine need advice for PSU and CPU cooler
Why exactly? He gets more performance out of the i7 than the i5 for the future. If I go for a i5 I would not take the 6600K but rather the normal 6600 since they have the same Turbo Speed anyway and I can save money on the H170 chipset. edit: I convinced him to go with a Fractal Define Mini. CPU co...

Re: Noise Elimination Process (Coaching Needed)
i replaced the fan on the radiator now the noise of the gpu cooler is gone, apparently the fan was broken :) I feel stupid for not discovering that earlier. However, the noise from the cpu liquid cooler is the thing i need to fix next. The question is if I replace the liquid cooler with a Hyper 212...

Re: Gaming machine need advice for PSU and CPU cooler
The i7 6700K runs much hotter than the i5 6600K in my experience, is HT and $100 less in his pocket really worth it for his use case scenario?
Also, 2600+ RAM is probably almost the same price, why not go with that.

Re: VM server in the closet, thin clients throughout the hou
Idk for you guys, but at my house, any given computer or HTPC is usually on 8-10 hours a day, and the server could easily be off between a given time period (1am to 9am or whatever). Centralizing computing might actually save power when in use anyways. Modern computers idle so low anyways too. Elect...

Re: Help me to build a very quiet PC
Ideally, as Steve said, i5 6400/6500/6600(K) and wait for the GTX 1070. Where are you located ? I'm a fan of the acoustics of the Shadow Rock Slim or Dark Rock 3, as I usually can't hear that 135mm fan. If you're lucky enough to have Scythe available around you, those are highly regarded, so are a f...

Try putting the noctua as a pull fan on the Hyper 212+ and removing the exhaust fan completely maybe? I'd probably just upgrade the CPU cooler to something better though, and just have it run at lower RPMs

Thanks for the reply The AsRock BIOS/software is just not as elegant as I would like, unlike ASUS' Fan Xpert 2 implementation for example. I was hoping there would be alternatives to relying on the motherboard for fan control, which would take away the need to worry about fan control when purchasing...

I'm not a fan of SpeedFan. I don't mind spent a bit for this, and I don't want it to be a headache for me.
It's hard to find people who use them, most nowadays can rely on motherboard with maybe a PWM hub

Re: Newbie looking to build his 1st silent PC
First things first, I strongly suggest getting the i5 6600K , for some reason, it heats up way less than the 6700K. For games the 6700K gives you little benefit anyways. The i7 6700 is great for people who don't OC because of the clockspeed, but in your case, just get the i5 and OC it to 4.2Ghz or s...

Hey guys, I'm looking for a way to control my fans better. PWM fans through true PWM (not voltage regulation), ideally down to 30%, and 3-pin fans down to 5V. I'll be using 5 fans (2* SilentWings 3 135mm PWM, 1* F140HP, 2* F140SP) My AsRock X79 Fatal1ty Pro isn't doing this for me ( http://images.an...

Re: Gaming Build Fortress FT05B
I agree with most things said, except I would stick with 2*8GB I'd stick with 2x4Gb. DDR4 is still young and prices will keep falling on so upgrading to 2x16Gb (the biggest sticks you can get) a year or two down the line when you need more RAM is money better spent. and I'd go further in saying avo...

Re: Gaming Build Fortress FT05B
I agree with most things said, except I would stick with 2*8GB, and I'd go further in saying avoid 2133Mhz DDR4, as you will lose a few fps with it. Even more important than you think, as it mostly affects Mimimum FPS. 2400-2800Mhz is the sweet spot for DDR4, and for gaming, 2400Mhz is probably enou...

Re: ~$1000 gaming build suggestions?
Hey Steve, would a Be Quiet! 500W or 600W Straight Power 10 PSU be a good option otherwise? Sure. Be Quiet! sells the 500W (model BN634) for $100 on Newegg (marketplace). Always on (but inaudible) fan. However, it's also Newegg that throws the EVGA P2 on sale for $80-90. I ask because I have the P2...

Re: ~$1000 gaming build suggestions?
Define S could save you a few bucks.
Look around at what price you can get the P2 650W vs the G2 or even the G2 550W. P2 650W will run fanless longer though. Hey Steve, would a Be Quiet! 500W or 600W Straight Power 10 PSU be a good option otherwise?

Re: Suggestions for mid power QUIET gaming PC
Steve's answer was nicely detailed. Also note the TDP in the non-K version is 65W, hinting on the power efficiency of Skylake. I remember, my old i7 920 D0 that could be undervolted while OCed by 25%. While at stock the performance wasn't great, once tweaked, it was quite a beast. I think many thing...

HyperX Fury and Corsair LPX series seem pretty low profile
EDIT: I don't think you need "flush with RAM slot tab" low-profile... My guess is Corsair LPX, HyperX Fury or that AMD one you showed are going to be short enough

Re: Suggestions for mid power QUIET gaming PC
Technically there are 4-core Xeon Haswell-E processors you can use on X99 boards, but for the clockspeed you want, they are 135-140W TDP! Skylake is best, i5 6600 or 6600K depending on if you intend to OC etc. Something like a Shadow Rock Slim is probably good for the CPU cooler, but if you want loo...

Re: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 & Cryorig H5 Universal Coolers
I know this is an old thread, but I figure better late than never. I think you inversed the fan positions. The 135mm is meant to be in the middle like when you unboxed it, but the test setup picture shows the fans reversed! I'm personally going to try this cooler with a second 135mm instead of the 1...

Re: New PSU time!
I ended up going with the EVGA P2 750W :) Is it quiet? Yep! Definitively made a difference, and this PSU is great quality. The G2 isn't that far behind though, and 750W was overkill for me, so I could have considered the G2 650W for sure and probably wouldn't have noticed any difference at all. Alt...

Re: New PSU time! HX850 UNBEARABLE after GPU change
Are your sure it's due to the PSU? The GTX 970 is somewhat notorious for coil whine problems. Set aside that none of the quoted PSUs uses rifle/sleeve bearing fan (differently from RMx, they're either FDB or Ball Bearing ones), your assessment on RMi/RMx fanless operation is just wrong, eTeknix/tec...

Don't have any positive or negative thoughts on the Snow Silent. Seasonic had some issues with some builds for "coil" whine. Don't know if it has been definatively resolved with the Snow Silent architecture. Note: I own several Seasonic PSUs - none had issues. I'm iffy on recommending them just bec...

Re: New PSU time! HX850 UNBEARABLE after GPU change
The RM650i is a decent PSU and Corsair claims the spec the caps, coils and transformers for whine, but pricey for it's class. Looks like the fan doesn't spin until sometime after 325W load for jonnyguru, 260W load at eteknix , and 240W for technic3D . Alternatives are the RMx non-link version of th...
