Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

I haven't personally tested the Z170M-PLUS but on the Z170 Pro Gaming, Z170-A and ROG Z170 Maximus VIII Ranger boards I was able to downgrade the bios fine. After testing a few more Z170 boards including an msi board I ended up sticking with the asrock board due to it having the better bios fan cont...

Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

I've now had a chance to test the asrock board and I'm glad to report the bios fan control is very good. I like the fact that you don't have to run any fan optimizations and it can all be done manually from 0% to 100% so you are guaranteed to get the lowest fan speed possible with your setup. The lo...

Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

Just a quick update. Managed to try out a Asus z170-a and it doesn't have a problem running my fan kotetsu fan at 20% in manual mode. I did have to run the fan optimisation a couple of times though before it detected 20% as the lowest the fan could run. It first detected 100%, then 40%, then finally...

Re: Fractal Design Dynamic GP-14 ticking noise?

My 2 r5 case fans also have a ticking noise but its not really noticable unless I put my ear close to the fans. When I first got my r5 case I thought my front fan was faulty due to a loud ticking noise. It turned out to be my front dust filter that had a few bits of material sticking out and hitting...

Re: Replacement fans for Scythe Kotetsu and Fractal Define R

...my kotetsu fan has a much more pronounced clicking noise. Are you running it in voltage mode or PWM mode? Running it in PWM mode. Would running it in voltage mode make a difference? I can't check for myself as I'm currently in the process or re build my system. If it's not normal I may request a...

Re: Replacement fans for Scythe Kotetsu and Fractal Define R

I'm also in same boat at the moment regards have the same setup and not being 100% with the noise of the fans at low rpms. My R5 case fans also have a slight tick / rattle low rpms which is not too bad but my kotetsu fan has a much more pronounced clicking noise. I look forward to reading your exper...

Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

Thanks for the info NTNgod and also thank you once again Abula for another detailed reply. I've just run 2 of the stock R5 case fans out of the case. One via the motherboard running around 500rpm xpert fan reading and the other running on the lowest setting of the built in R5 fan controller which I ...

Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

Thanks once again for another very detailed reply. On second thoughts and after your very good breakdown of how the msi board works regards fan control I'm now leaning more towards an msi board. My original plan was to not to use any software and to be honest I don't really want to compromise. Do yo...

Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

Hi Abula, Thank you for your very detailed reply. Btw have you run the tunning/calibration on the bios of the CPU_FAN? I wrote to Asus JJ about it, is his response, Yes I used the tunning/calibration but on the newer bios versions is will only detect 60% as the lowest range in manual mode. In the pr...

What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

Hi all, I've just put a new system together using a Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. With the bios that shipped with the board version 0802 I was able to run my scythe kotetsu fan pwm at 20% / 450 rpm in the bios using q-fan. Unfortunately with the last couple of bios updates, versions 1202 and 1102 I can now ...

Re: Which power supply from my short list?

Excellent, thank you all for your help and very swift reply's. I will go with the SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 550W. The SuperFlower Golden Silent 430W was also a good pick but its a little more at £85 and out of stock.

Re: Which power supply from my short list?

Hi Steve, thank you for your very swift reply. I did also have the be quiet! 500CM as one of my top pick from my list. Do you have any idea if running the EVGA Supernova G2 750w in eco mode / fan less would cause my overall system temps to be much higher than the bequiet? For £4 more it seems like I...

Which power supply from my short list?

Hi All, I’m currently trying to pick a modular power supply for my silent build. Not really sure if it’s better to go fanned, semi-fanless or fanless. Is it possible for a highly efficient semi-fanless / fanless power supply to have lower temperatures and produce less heat than an average fanned pow...
