Re: Replacing my (t)rusty i5-750

Had problems sourcing the parts, ended up with a Define Mini C and some Corsair 3000mhz ram - Thank you for the advice, Abula! The motherboard was flexing a bit and was slightly bent from the start, so much for Ultra Durable... I wrongly installed the mugen backplate, so that made things worse, but ...

Re: Is this normal?

I'd retest temperatures with no overclocking first of all, then check for dust, bad fans, reversed airflow, and then the actual seating of the cooler. I know of a system that ran with the stock intel cooler, but one of the 4 pins holding it in place was broken and it didn't really hold it tight enou...

Re: Silent media + webhosting server capable 4k HEVC transco

Internet says you need an i9/dual xeon/threadripper setup, because you probably need it to be realtime. I've seen this video on linustechtips, he's got the big/powerful/noisy server in the next room with some thunderbolt gizmo that allows the monitor+io to be near him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Replacing my (t)rusty i5-750

I think the case is BH-02B-B-B (or something very similar to it), this is the closest link I could find, mine has purple plastics instead and no filter, but the same layout, all the rage in 2005: https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Chieftec-Uni-BH-02B-B-B-Midi-Tower-ohne-Netzteil-schwarz_139...

Re: HELP - Almost deadly silent setup for audio home-recordi

Audio recording needs a lot of fast I/O when you're recording multiple things at the same time, and needs a lot of CPU power when you're adding effects live, while recording. For a single (probably mono) track with no live effects, that's not a problem for any pc, even your smartphone could do it, i...

Re: Replacing my (t)rusty i5-750

Hello CA_Steve! Case prices, converted to USD, tried to select most talked-about models: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/25950431/ Some are more expensive than the motherboards. I can get a good used case for $30-$35, maybe less, but replacing the fans will add to that. I'm in Romania, the major e-taile...

Replacing my (t)rusty i5-750

Greetings, silence lovers! I've been visiting your website for a few years, but I never got around to building a new PC, until now. Warning, wall of text follows, here's the tl;dr version: 1) is there any motherboard in particular that has better fan/temperature control and reliability than others, ...
