Re: Intel to drop Tejas in favour of Pentium-M?

That would be great news for heat dissipation! :D Hummm. Maybe. Intel might take the view that the low(er) power consumption of Pentium-M allows them to stuff loads more gubbins in the processor and wind the clock-speed up before it hits unacceptable levels of power consumption (say 150W). Point is...

Hummm... well if I were you I'd strongly question your friends desire to buy from the US. I've bought stuff from the US in the past, but it's getting increasingly difficult. US vendors are getting ever more paranoid and insular in their dealings with the Rest Of The World now I think. Apparently thi...

I think MikeC has hit on a key point, and that is that you need to factor in the selection effects and the sample of drives owned by people who post here. How many people turn up to post here to complain about their IBM drive dying? Not many. Does that mean IBM drives are reliable? No, far from it (...

My approach was two-fold: firstly to move the sensor away from the heatsink, and secondly to flip the fan over so that it draws cool air in through the heatsink and exhausts into the case. This quietened the PSU down a treat. The minor downside was that it dumped a lot of heat in my case, and I had ...

Re: speedfan and hibernate

Speedfan doesn't seem to work with hibernate. The lowest BIOS CPU fan voltage on my ststem (HP pavillion) is too high, so I use speedfan to adjust fan speed. This works fine until I hibernate: it seems that on resume the setting is read from the BIOS again, and now there's nothing speedfan can do a...

How good is this fan at 5V (clicking, vibration) ? Can it replace a standard 80x80x25 fan (hole distance) ? It's audible at 5V, mine made a sound like the bearings where rubbing. It's tough to replace it using the mounting system provided (the Zalman fan is very thin, 12mm or whatever, less than 25...

I agree that when playing a game, we tend not to notice the quality, however, by looking at the farcry screen shots, you can see obvious differences. I didnt even had to try. I can't speak for power consumption, but my TFT buzzes (very slightly) if the back-light isn't set to full illumination (I'm guessing it uses the same PWM-style voltage control as found in some dimmer switches, it sounds very similar). I've read rumours that the next generations of graphics processors (NV40 specifically) will consume 150W.
