You didn't mention hard-drives - multi-drive setups seem quite popular amongst the DAW crowd, do you have multiple drives? If so that could easily be your limiting factor how quiet you can get your PC. Other than that, the first thing I would look at changing would be the graphics cards. 3870 is two...

You may be able to read and interpret the benchmarks. I have tried and have not been able to. :?: :? The answers are in this thread and the other threads you've started here about your micro-techno-angst. In very plain language as far as I can discern. The benchmarks you see aren't relevant to your...

I am hoping someone who understands what those benchmarks are actually measuring can translate the obtuse benchmarks into a more accessible reality. It is beyond me to be able to do that. OK, here's the precis: - stop worrying about it Memory speed and cache size/speeds will have no practical impac...

Cute. Gigabyte have been making quite a few nice boards recently IMO particularly at the uATX form factor - they've been my choice for the past two or three years, with integrated everything-I-want and good under-volting too. It's nice to see them giving a higher profile to their ITX offerings. Woul...

Isn't there anybody who has done it that way? Yeah I've done this. I just used double-sided sticky tape to fix the power brick to the metal of the case - this was a desktop-format HTPC case, so it was sat on a horizontal surface - the tape wasn't supporting it just stopping it shifting about. For m...

Take a look at mediaportal too if you're set on using Windows. It's also free. Of the three PVR/etc. suites I've tried (MythTV, SageTV, MP) I've had the best luck with MP though it's far from perfect.

I'm not as convinced as some that it's going to be a failure. Certainly there are a few slightly odd "WTF?!" omissions in the hardware specs (lack of a camera for video chat being most obvious in my mind). Ultimately though I think this device is about user-interface and content. Much of the comment...

Neat trick. Ram drives sounds risky but perhaps I can use an old memory stick instead. Why would it be risky? Ideally you wouldn't store any important data on the ramdisk, just temporary files, browser cache etc. ^^^ This. The browser cache is just a copy of stuff which, by definition, is available...

I don't believe there are any full-size slot-load DVD drives any more. There were some years ago but I think they died out.

The problem with the NSK3480 is the insanely cramped upper compartment. This is true, it could be better. The best high quality and quiet PSU I've seen that will fit up there is something like the Corsair VX450, which just isn't enough for my needs. It's close, but not quite. The Nexus 430 will fit...

The most silent and in the same time performing 12V 120mm fan is Scythe Silent Typhoon 1.450rpm. I have 5 of them in my case and the most loud thing was the clicking of an hard drive (that was replaced with Intel SSD). The fan is so silent you will hear only a very gentle airflow. Five fans? Five 1...
