Use of drive bay panels as zero cost drive assembly
In the vein of zero cost I wanted to mention that I have found that using the pull-off drive bay panels (with conveniently sized holes) was a great way to make a four-legged assembly for my hard drives. I simply tore off some small pieces of sorbothane as buffers between the "leg" and the drive and ...

ASUS temps
I am intrigued by the comments re ASUS CPU temp calibration errors. I'm cooling a P2.4C with a Zalman 7000Cu and both MBM5 and Asus probe only show a 10C rise from normal use (29C) to full load with a CPU burn-in program at 100% CPU load (39C stable). Idle temps are case ambient - according to Asus ...

Replacing Nexus 4000 fan
My Nexus 4000 PSU is the currently the loudest component in my new - and first quiet rig. So as to demonstrate appropriate compulsive silencing behavior/s - can anyone speak to experience of modding the fan in a Nexus 4000? New fan choice? Any dismantling tricks? ( I am aware of the discharging / sa...

Re: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Get the same one they use on the 9600 Pro Ultimate , if it's available retail. Maybe it's the "HP-50"? Otherwise, sell your current card and get the Pro Ultimate. Everyone knows black Vidcards run faster anyway, right? :) I might try emailing ATI support. Will let you know outcome. [/quote] ATI tec...

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Boy, the fan is this card is NOISY!
However - AnandTech says ..."to a 0.13-micron manufacturing process it requires very little cooling. ... "
I am looking at the Zalman products - any guidance from anyone on selection .....for passive cooling of course ...
.
Thanks,

Extending internal cables
There's 2 different EAR fan mounts for all three sizes of fans. The best place in the US to get them is from McMaster-Carr . Type "1212" (without the quote marks) into the search box on the main page and this will take you to page 1212 of their catalog. Scroll down to the "PVC Miniature Fan Mounts"...

I am sorry I don't have any first-hand experience - but I'd love to know - as I am considering the new MSI canterwood board ... It does have an active fan cooled northbridge ... which may be a clear disadvantage ... but figured there would be a way to eihter replace it wiht a larger heatsink - or re...

GlobalWin YCC-61F1 Case experience /judgements?
Hi all, I have been looking for my next case - possibly the modded D8000, the upcoming Acousticase and the Globalwin case as mentioned above. At some point the reviews and research only go so far and I wondered if anyone had any opinions of the Globalwin YCC-61F1 case ...? It is a full tower but mor...

Hi Will - thanks for your comments - and ref to Katana man's great article which I had read BTW - and also found very interesting. Thanks for this really great information - you've been really diligent! You mention starting over with another case - which sort of makes sense seeing as you changed the PSU which comes with the Sonata. Which case would you go to now ... The acousticase is currently on the top of my list ... but the...
