Re: Define Mini DAW (PICS ADDED!)
Looks likes an interesting build - thanks for taking the time to post. I have a similar set up in my DAW with an HR02 and exhaust fan in a P182. I have my drives ( Samsung ecogreen and Hitachi 7k1000.D) suspended and seek noise is only a minor irritation with the door closed. Questions: 1. The scyth...

Re: 1st HTPC
Balinus, Yes I think if you can wait the zacate boards seem a better option for your htpc. Linux support for a lot of the new hardware continues to impress me which is why I've made the switch for most of my day to day tasks. The Phoronix site its worth a look for linux hardware compatibility. They ...

Re: Needing to Build a Quiet Digital Audio Workstation!
Not to put a spanner in the works but SB has been great for the benchmarkers and the gamers but there are a lot of DAW builders getting a lot of trouble with the 67 chipset http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar11/articles/pc-notes-0311.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=886...

Have you had a sniff at the forums here http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=PCMus Tons of helpful advice. Quite a few system builders there too. I like what you're doing! Forgive the question as it is for my education but is software raid (mdadm) on linux a no-go for this array size? Would there be too much CPU overhead needed for running the array even for a quad core? (I run the mdadm raid 1 500gb for my very modest 64bit dual core ubuntu ...

I've got a dual boot audio DAW running Sonar on XP32bit. I have the Sonar DAW on a separate 80gb samsung HDD and a 320gb audio drive. This is a clean XP install with all the windows cr4p removed. On a third drive is XP with a virus scanner, EAC, foobar2000 etc. Three drives is part of my plan to go ...

At this time, AMD has not qualified the Jetway, ASRock, Gigabyte, Biostar, or Sapphire 780G boards to operate properly with the 125W TDP processors The current version of the 780G boards may have problems if you want a more powerful cpu. I know you gamers - never satisfied! I get the impression tha...

Bluefront, I agree the standards would be difficult to make universal across multiple reviewers . However SPCR's heatsink test rig is our local standard so my point was that a quick "dash" of statistical significance with reviews at SPCR might improve the accuracy of our grain-o-salt-ometer! (mine n...

Lies, damned lies and statistics
I feel that SPCR is the more scientific of the hardware sites out there at the moment. What made me think about this statistical analysis of reviews was the fact that coolers get top ratings based on a degree or two of temperature improvement over the competitors. (Granted ease of installation, size...

Yes time to up the ante. Looking at my averages I didn't feel I was getting the best ppd for the £ So (finally) got the SMP client running on FC6 64bit. Kept getting stuck on the NNODES bit. Churning away OK now on a X2 3800 + 939 @2ghz (this is going to also double as a file server and slimserver)...

I think there would be a demand for a flow guardian. I have a flow switch in my loop which is hooked up to a 555 pulse generator. If there is no flow when the computer is switched on (pump failure) the MOBO doesn't boot. The pump is switched by a 240v relay with 12v coils connected to the 12v on one...
