seagate cuda V 120gb 8mb vs 7200.7 200gb - my experience

I replaced my cuda V 120gb with a 200gb (both ata) yesterday here's my thoughts: idle noise - 200gb has *slightly* less (I put my ear to both with the case open, can't tell with the case closed) seek noise - 200gb has more, which was suprising since I had turned AAM off on my 120gb (expected the noi...

To be quite frank I fail to understand how a 5 year warranty on a hard-drive is in any way useful. Five years ago I owned a 4GB hard-drive. If I owned it today and it failed... would I want a replacement? Not really. I might be more interested in retrieving the data. Do they warrantyiseificate for ...

I don't understand how you can increase the FSB on a processor without making it super unreliable. My Thoroughbred 2400+ crashes before it gets off the ground if I try to do that. No way would I try to overclock the FSB. I have read now also that the Thoroughbred 2700+ benchmarks with almost exactl...

even @ the slowest/quietest speed (5v) the zalman 7000 will be cooling your cpu very well..

I didn't mean to imply that ALL nforce 2 boards do, just that MOST of them run off the 12v line. The Asus is an exception in most things, it's also one of the few NF2 boards that uses 2 phase voltage regulation, even the lowly $50 Shuttle A35N uses 3 phase. The MSI pictured above DOES run off the 1...

AFAIK, the asus program uses the thermistor underneathe the socket for cpu temps..

in MBM5 you can select the diode on the cpu to get a more accurate temperature (will be higher)

Yep, that's the 12v connector (two 12v lines actually). NF2 boards run the CPU off the 12v line, whether you use the connector or not, though I'm not sure if they can get enough juice from the ATX connector. They might run w/o the connector but they may not be stable (as you've experienced). Runnin...

in that case your board is NOT using 12v for cpu voltage regulation.. so your psu should be powerful enough

Do you overclock? if so, i dont think you will benefit noise wise from using a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu , cause you likely wont be able to undervolt the fan to 5v, which is really the only setting that could be considered quiet. the zalman 7000A-ALCU is great even for overclocked systems.. based on what I've read here..

noise - comparable
performance - better
temperature - much cooler

but that was comparing 8mb spinpoint vs. 8mb V, so the 2mb spinpoint may not be faster then the 8mb V

did you call them and get them to read the model number from the actual drives?

I tried buying one from them in Sept and it was actually a 7200.7..

I ended up ordering one from ncix.com (BC)..

my next hd (160+) will be a spinpoint though.. 8)
