Easy Tune 5 is a Gigabyte motherboard overclocking utility that runs in Windows but lets you change settings in the BIOS without rebooting. After I change the settings I can exit the program and it keeps the settings even when I reboot the PC and don't run the program again. When I am in the BIOS I...

The latest revision of D-Link's gigabit switches are all advertised as "green." http://www.dlink.com/corporate/environment/dlink-green-ethernet/ They claim it uses 80% less power than past switches when all computers are powered down. The documentation suggests any port not in use reduces power cons...

I'd go against conventional opinion and recommend Seagate. Both are 7200rpm drives, however 501 is a three platter drive, while .11 should be a two platter one. Two platters always beat three in idle noise. So as long as you're not bothered by louder seeks on seagate I would suggest it over Samsung...

Be aware that pic says nothing about noise. The Slipstream @ 1200rpm generates more noise than the S-FLEX @ 1200rpm.

Unfortunately, I don't know. It might be wise to get the 1200RPM for the headroom, and if it is too noisy, or you really do not need the speed, then get the 800RPM?
Thanks, I ordered both.

I will report my results.

For the lower noise, is there a compromise with performance? I'm in the same dilemma with the 7200.11s and other drives... The 7200.11 is no speed demon. I had one and replaced it with the Samsung. The dropoff with the Samsung is negligible. If you want the best acoustics, you buy the Samsung 500Gb...

Do I understand correctly that you've only tested resistance on the intake side?

How about testing with resistance on the opposite side, as you would get blowing through a large heatsink with closely spaced fins?

Neil,

For the Ultra 120 Extreme, do you feel the Scythe Slipstream 800rpm is more desirable than an undervolted S-Flex SFF21E? Or should I opt for an undervolted Slipstream 1200rpm?

I intend to overclock my E8400 to 3.6GHz.

I'm also trying to decide between these boards. Do all of the Gigabyte DS3P bios allow you to set the voltage for every fan header independently, depending on current temperature of the CPU/NB/VRM? That's one of the best features of the Abit IP35 Pro. The ability to run any fan header at 6w while id...
