I've recently bought a Samsung 120Gb P80 (8mb cache) model, and this is my experience so far: When fitted to a standard 3 1/2" drive cage, there was very little seek noise, but I could hear a discernable whine. It wasn't that loud, but when you've lived without this irritation for some months, it's ...

I've just recently fitted a new Samsung 1213N (120GB) to accompany a Seagate 7200.7 80GB drive. I also find it noisier that expected: I first fitted it in a plastic 3.5" to 5" adapter and into a 5" drive bay. I was pleased to hear no idle 'whining' noise, but I thought the seeks were a bit loud. Als...

Just to back up what Mike says, I've had some personal experience with the 92mm 'L' Panaflo and I'm sure it will be too noisy for you at 12v. It does have some bearing noise at that setting as well as more 'whooshing' :). You might be able to tolerate it if it were isolated inside the case (like on ...

Hello Ez2remember, That's a good idea! I used the same trick with one of the high-volume 92mm fans - 5v is as good as the 'L' 92mm's running at 7v. I've still got the other 'H' fan running at 7v (above CPU). I'll try wiring that to be 5v and see if the temps increase much. Do you know where you can ...

Hi Aphonos, Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply. Yes I am quite new to the site, but probably come here more than any other right now! Regarding your questions: 1). I haven't cut away grills for any intake/exhaust so far, as I also have removed the PC's plastic 'front'. I thought this could b...

Regarding the exhaust fan, I can recomment the Zalman 92mm, but only if you use the included resistor, when it's really quiet. It doesn't move a great deal of air at this setting, but maybe you won't need that anyway. Used at full power you'll find it pretty unbearable by the way! The only thing abo...

Too many fans at 7v?

Hi all, Since getting the quiet PC bug (caught it from this site!), I've made some dramatic improvements to the noise level of my Supermicro full tower case, and actually improved temps by adding more fans running at lower speed. I can now sleep in the same room, and the PC is behind a table which h...

Would a new PSU help lower temps?

I have been steadily working towards a quiet PC for the last year, but am now having problems with high temps - a common problem I guess  I've replaced the original noisy fans with 3xPanaflo 80mm L1A's for intake, and 1x92mm 'L' for exhaust. The CPU's Taisol HS has a Panaflo 92mm 'H' above it,...

Connected, You've probably bought the fan by now, but just for info... ...I removed the stock 60mm fan on my Taisol HS, and set up a high-volume Panaflo 92mm attached to a Zalman bracket to blow over the HS. It's controlled by a fanmate. This keeps the Panaflo's noise to a reasonable level, but you ...

I have to agree with Pingu... I've just bought a 'cuda 80Gb 7200.7 to replace an expired 40gb IBM Deathstar 60GXP. I'm a newbie to this forum, and it helped me a lot in making up my mind. I'm impressed with how quiet the 7200.7 is, even though it's sitting in a standard internal 3.5" bay. Although I...
