Can anyone explain, step by step, how you calculate a CPU's power dissipation at various speeds and voltages? Some figures have to be known before you begin: - The stock frequency (Hertz/Hz) - The stock voltage (volts/V) - The stock heat emission (watts/W) If you know these three, you can calculate...

Never mind the temperature if the card is stable. If you really want to know, there should be information for you in the so-called white papers over at ATI's web site.

Staying off the topic -- interesting about the origin of brownie points (I'm a linguist and a translator, so I'm supposed to be). The reason I asked was that I thought it might be a derivation of "brown nosing", which would make your comment really sarcastic...

First things first: 1. Double check that you're reading the correct sensors. 2. You say the room temps are way up. Get them down before anything else, then check the temps again. 3. Re-seat the heatsink. If the temps are still high, clean the heatsinks from dust. The XP-120 should be able to cool ju...

Silencer has an 80mm fan, Tornado has a 120mm fan. The heatsinks inside the Tornado are smaller to accommodate the larger fan.

Cheap, Clean, Cool and Quiet Case Cooling

Actually, most of it is semi-old news to SPCR regulars, but nevertheless a good starting point for newcomers.

I had no stability problems whatsoever with a fanless ZM80A-HP on my previous 9700 Pro card... If your case ventilation is good, the card will be fine. As long as it's stable, don't worry about the temperature.

Dremel works, but it's really, really, REALLY slow for holes of some size. If you already have the tool and the hole sa...

AMD:s max temp is closer to 90 degrees C (!), but it will be unstable before that. My idle temps with a mobile 2500+ clocked to 3200+ speeds are 44 degrees C using a duct and measured on a NF7-S v2.0 with MBM. That cooler of yours should give you lower temps, even if your case ventilation is flaky. ...

I doubt you'll get a lot of answers to your question in this forum... Very few of us use phase change coolers -- mostly because they're too noisy. (Perhaps not noisy per se, but noisy to us.) Qbert, if you can't hear any difference, there are at least two possible reasons -- either you just aren't that sensitive, or there are other parts in your system whose noise drown out the HDD. In standard computers, the HDD is rarely the noisiest thing. It's usually the CPU fan, followed by the PSU...

The temps you should worry about are those of your harddrive. My recommendation is to try to keep the HD below 4...
