The AOpen SilenTek feature looks a lot like ABIT's (or vice versa). And the Asus fan controller seems similar as well. All of them allow for variable speed fan control, but not shut off. I do not know much about the Aopen (yet) but I have tried all the other motheboards you have listed. Most just t...

Why does it matter where the machine is located? I have machines all over the house, all on the same subnet. I am not a network expert, this is just a hobby, my understanding is for a group of computer to exist on the same subnet they must all be connected to a common switch. If the building housin...

OK, there should only be one DHCP server on a network, and it has to be in the farm server, so I would have to turn DHCP off in the broadband router. But that would then require me to manually configure each of my Windows machines, not to mention a ReplayTV which picks up an IP address via DHCP. Th...

Tell me again why I should put the folding clients on the 198.168.0 subnet? If you have run the ltsp initialization script, you will notice it has changed about 6 files. Most of these files defaults to 192.168.0. network, if you wish to move subnet you will have to change the setting in these files...

Re: FAH4?
The Linux client makes you open a console and type "./FAH3Console-LinuxB.exe -forceasm -advmethods" precisely each and every time you start Linux... ironic... Do a search for 'finstall' on the folding forum. It will install the folding client as a daemon and run without logging in. Charlie.

Is the fan in that PSU an 80mm fan? How do you like it -- noisewise? It is a single 120mm fan. I originally brought the SS300FT to replace a old Qtechology QT-02300 . David, The farm has to be on its own network becauce the dhcp server has to point the client to the location of the kernel on the farm server. Another bazaar thing is that if the floppy isn't mounted, and you copy a file to that directory, the file doesn't go on the floppy, but just in that directory. I have to admit, reading the Linux configuration steps puts me to sleep. In fact. That's definitely going to be "the hard part". Buying and assembling the hardware is easy. If you setup your farm the classical way then the farm would be headless and on its own network. It would probably be the simpliest way to setup a farm as instructions is avaliable on the internet.

It's certainly not as expensive as it used to be, but it would have a worse cost/performance ratio, which may or may not be as important depending on the person. I don't see how running two m/b from one PSU is necessarily a "bad" idea? Did not realize the atx splitter are ready made. I thought you had to solder them yourself. I have a Duron 1.3G with a 64MB SDRAM running as a ltsp farm client so the client does not need that much memory, just a suggestion. ...
