Re: Antec Solo....BROKEN POWER and RESET BUTTONS!!
How do you glue the power button exactly? Mine is an original P150 'White' I think. It's not obvious to me how it all worked before it broke, but maybe it was a very simple setup. Alternatively, I guess I could switch it on using the PSU on/off switch, or locate the power button switch to a rear ven...

Disconnecting fan from AGP graphics card - cause problems?
This is the AGP card in question: https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/AH3450HTP256M/ I’m not asking about thermal problems. I mean problems that may arise from the mobo/bios discovering the fan has been disconnected from the graphics card, and therefore refusing to boot, or constant warnings, etc. M...

Re: Removing glue SAFELY from a motherboard?
I'll give the hair dryer a go, and using kitchen silver foil to mask the board will I'm sure make it a lot safer, so good tip there. Thanks. I've got some IPA wipes too.

Removing glue SAFELY from a motherboard?
I’m trying to remove an original backing plate from an ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo. I removed all the fastners, and placed as much pressure on the plate that I deemed safe, but it won’t come off. A bit of Googleing revealed it’s stuck on with heavy-duty double-sided tape. Further Googling found someone who...

Thanks, Worker control.
I’ll give filtering a miss for now, but might experiment with it at some point.

Using aluminum mesh filters?
The corrugated type: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/746/alfilter120sltlrg.jpg They faired very well in these airflow tests and average about 20% restriction in these fan reviews . However, that’s the airflow level when clean, how about when they start getting clogged with filtered crud? How quickly ...

I don’t know why no one’s replied, after 216 views :? Really useful info for anyone after a 140 fan 8) The only other 140’s I’ve seen do well were the Thermalright TY-140 and the Prolimatech Red Vortex 14, which SPCR rated as 'noticeably better' than their reference Noctua NF-P14: http://www.silentp...

Re: Anyone using Demciflex air filters?
Just found a VERY useful filter shootout, here 8) Some of those meshes would do (if I can find them), or the Alu Mesh Filter. I could try to squeeze 2 x 120’s onto my P150's 200mm x 120mm plastic filter holder. That means trimming 20mm off each, but I’ll end up with 50% more filter surface area, com...

Re: Anyone using Demciflex air filters?
Thanks for the input, ces. I’m more concerned with the filter suffocating the fans airflow, than how well they filter dust. They are about the same as the modright filterright filters. I think there might be a difference, judging by a review here (Reviews > Capt TW), copied below: START>>> very good...

Re: Xigmatek Loki SD963 (K8), compatible with 939 mobo?
Thanks again Jim. Very helpful. Do you know the model name of your motherboard? An ASUS A8V Deluxe All PWM fans have a power connector with four holes for pins. If your fan only has three holes for pins, it is only going to work with voltage control. 4 Pin with PWM, apparently. Also, if your motherb...

Re: Anyone using Demciflex air filters?
Just found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4NTT1uTdOo
No mention of how restrictive they are in practice, but if they’re that efficient at stopping crud, that 15% will drop off fast, and they’ll need cleaning maybe every week, to get back to 15%.

Anyone using Demciflex air filters?
How restrictive are they? I discovered my Antec P150 front filter restricts airflow by about 70%, so that’s in the bin. According to Demciflex, their filters are 15% restrictive. I just wondered if anyone had tested these, by checking airflow strength when a fan is placed onto a filter, compared to ...

Re: Low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique
Just carried out a similar experiment as Katana did, holding a Nexus 92mm (1500rpm) against an Antec P150 (same as Solo afaik) filter assembly. Air flow reduced by about 70% when trying to pull air through the filter. Shocked! :o Even pulling through just the honeycomb metal filter holder, there see...

Re: Coolermaster Turbine Master 16 blade 120mm
Another glowing review: http://www.rexware.fr/ (use Google French translation) I don’t understand why on page 3, he claims the Turbine was tops for db/cfm ratio, when it’s clearly outdone by the GT-13. 41dB/58.5cfm v 40.5db/48.6cfm. Linked on the home page is their best rated fans table, and the Tur...

Thanks for the info, Jim
One other question: is it possible to adjust the coolers fan speed using that mobo's BIOS? It's a 2800rpm fan, believed to be PWM with a start up voltage of 7v, and I want it at 1200rpm.

Mike, at least they are testing fans. SPCR may have superior test equipment, having spent a very long time tweaking a set up you were happy with, but when does it ever get used? Testing fans that come with heatsinks maybe, but I can't remember the last lone or group fan test.

Samsung 3.5: number of platters and heads?
For the following drives. Tried Googling but I’ve run out of patience :? F4 HD322GJ ? F1 HD322HJ ? F1 HD252HJ ? F1 HD161GJ ? F2 HD502HJ ? I’m after single platter for reliability. Single head should be more reliable too, but I’m thinking maybe 2 heads will be quicker at certain tasks. I’m also after...

WD Black Caviar vs. Black Scorpio, and are they quiet?
Will I be happy with the Blacks, noisewise, whether 3.5 or 2.5? I want Blacks because they come with a 5 year warranty, which suggests they’re more reliable. Going on official figures (below), the Caviar and Scorpio seem pretty close, if used in speed-mode 3, and both very close to the Greens, whi...
