Best solution: 80 or 92mm fan mounted above (Zalman arm, perhaps) or hung on wires stretched across the case and through the holes in the fan, along the side and out the holes on the other side. Sometimes you can position one to cool both the chipset and the ram. Best 60mm low noise: the 60mm fan fr...

I wonder whether mounting a 80mm-to-120mm duct on top of the 800U and attaching a 120mm fan to it would yield better results because of no air "spillage'? I did tests with an 80mm fan on a 60x60mm HS using a homemade aluminum adapter. The temps with the fan in free air hung above the HS about an in...

Which Voltage rail used by cpu's?
I've only recently learned that on current motherboards, the cpu is actually using voltage from the +12V rail, and not the 3.3V rail, but older cpu's used the 5V or 3.3V rails. Does anyone know the exact source for each class of cpu or a resource where I could find the info? I'd llike to learn for e...

Btw, how come no one hang their fans (CPU heatsink) the other way around any more? I mean instead of pushing air against CPU, pulling air away from it. Is it because the surrounding components get too hot these days? Pushing usually gives a little lower temps, I think. And I cooked a fan on an unus...

Overpriced Rebadge My nomination goes to the Vantec "Stealth" 80mm fan. I bought one for a computer build for my daughter. The motherboard, an ECS K7VTA3 turned out not to have an option in the bios to turn off the cpu fan protection. I already had a 92mm 2-wire Panaflo mounted above the heatsink, ...

I had an MSI K7T Pro Ver.1 that I upgraded to a Duron Morgan 1.2G before MSI decided that wasn't a good idea. After 3 mos. the board and cpu died. The psu connector was welded to the motherboard. I was eventually able to get it off after soaking the connector in WD-40, and after a period to penetrat...

Test program for undervolting
I'm going to undervolt a TBird 1.1G. What programs should I use to test stability? I've been using cpuburn to test different heatsinks and fans but I have access to Sandra and 3dMark.

Test data: 80mm fan & adapter on 60mm heatsink
I wanted to try replacing a 60mm fan with an 80mm fan via an adapter. Tests were done on a TBird 1.1G 100Mhz cpu using an ARX heatsink (60x60x40mm high and similar in size and construction to a Volcano II) and Arctic Silver II. The adapter for the 80mm fans is made from aluminum flashing and sits th...

The way I've dealt with the short bare leads issue is to solder on larger guage wire leads to the existing ones. Then I take the ends of these wires, bend them over and solder them to make ends that will fit snugly into the molex drive connectors from the psu. Now you have the option of plugging the...

Fan speed on fan with sensor
How does a fan with the small sensor sticking out of the hub regulate fan speed? I made an 80mm to 60mm cpu heatsink fan adapter and tested it with a Superred CHA 8012BS-TA 80x80x25mm fan. This fan has a small sensor projecting from the hub and is described on the manufacturer's website as a tachome...

A note of explanation about the "shipping to Canada" issue: As soon as anything has to be shipped across the border, suppliers will generally increase the shipping cost dramatically. Then the cheapest shipper (UPS ground?) will tack on a charge of about $10Cdn for handling customs. By the time you'v...

Mounting HDD in new case
I've mounted hard drives in two older cases that lack the new 3 1/2" rails all the way to the bottom by putting aluminum extrusions along the sides as heat sinks, then holding them down to the bottom front behind the intake fan on foam strips with stretchy cord. But now I have a new case that has th...

Probably similar to Proxomitron is AdShield. It blocks popups, and gets rid of most banner ads. Adshield is free at adshield.org or.net. Popups are controlled automatically, banners disappear as you add their URLs to a block list by right clicking on the ads. Then the box is resized to 0x0 pixxels a...

When drilling in plastic, use very sharp drills. I have a plastic case fascia with a pattern of amall dimples on the lower front and I wanted to drill these out into holes for better airflow to the intake fan behind. Overclocked P4 project -- hole in case top?
Mike
Did you leave the hole in the top of the case over the psu in your overclocked P4 project after you flipped the psu back to its original position and put the Panaflo in it?
