I've bought from them before and never had problems, but I'll likely never shop there again after reading this.

I assume that by Nvidia, you mean MSI? Because my two other 780i boards, from EVGA and Asus both overclocked really easily. The MSI board is just a piece of crap.

I did talk to MSI about it, and they basically told me they don't know/care.

conclusion: I got an Asus Striker Formula II and it hit 3.6 ghz with no voltage changes and my ram runs at 4-4-4-12 and it took about 5 seconds of work and the system is super stable. So, the moral of the story is that this MSI board blows at overclocking and this Asus board is freaking awesome. Tha...

I also recently got one and got the crappy fan doors. I will also be cutting those suckers up. Are we in agreement that it's also a good idea to cut off the metal grill in front of the intake fans too?

yeah i have thoroughly memorized everything on the internet concerning this motherboard. That page is a little helpful, but not too much since that board uses a different bios than mine and he's using a different processor and different ram. Thanks though =)

I was able to get it to boot at 3.525ghz seemingly stable. That's absolutely insane since my goal has been 3.6ghz. It just won't do it though, no matter what I do to the voltages. Here's a screenshot of what settings in the BIOS worked to get my current speed. Hopefully either someone will see a mir...

I tried lots and lots of voltages, none of which were completely stable. In fact, it wasn't until I bumped the voltages into dangerous levels that it would boot into windows, and even then it was highly unstable. With my nb at 1.5 volts and my ram at 2.3 and my cpu somewhere around 1.8v, it would at...

My memory is set to run 1:1 at 800mhz. I would update my bios, but there's only one version that exists, 1.0. I visited Rebel's Haven, but their section on MSI motherboards hasnt been posted in for like a year. Guess they're not too active. I tried pretty much every voltage I could, well into unsafe...

if that is the case, it will make me very sad.

I have been able to get it to boot at 1600fsb, but I had to jack the voltages way up and it is still wildly unstable...something is clearly amiss and I can't figure it out.

Can't overclock e8400 on an MSI P7N 780i mobo

I am having great difficulty overclocking my e8400 on my new MSI P7N Diamond motherboard. The same processor with the same RAM overclocked just fine without any voltage bumps on my EVGA 780i motherboard, but for the life of me, I can not figure out how to get this MSI board to do the very same thing...

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTM0MSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== HardOCP has the 8800GTS coming out on top in pretty much every test. Don't know why there would be a discrepancy, but this is what I have read. I don't have a GTS, I have the GTX, but I'd assume their coolers would be simil...

I use an 8800gtx under 32bit vista and it runs great. Everyone who says otherwise is using 4 month old drivers or they're retarded. It's a small amount slower than it would be in XP, but so are ATI cards. Can't blame Nvidia for that, I'd say. I'm a painfully addicted PC gamer and I have yet to have ...

Yesterday was a very busy day for this computer. I modded the back panel to fit a second 80mm fan, I added a 120mm top fan mount, and I cut out the front on the case and added some honeycomb modders mesh for some far superior airflow. http://www.breakspirit.com/misc/finishedwavemaster1.jpg http://ww...

Why not try to make that window from mesh or other type of metal net... And maybe ad some light to case... I did actually consider doing that and I do already own some black modders mesh, but I decided I didn't think it looked as good as a plain old window in my opinion. I do have some cold cathode...

I could also just attach those casters straight to the bottom of the case, without using any board, right? Although that would make it more difficult to remove them if I decided against the bottom fan. I work at a hardware store, so I'll pick some casters up next time I work.

You're right that the bottom fan likely wouldn't get enough air, so I've been hunting for some taller case feet that won't ruin the look. Alright, I've been up all night, again, working on this and I think I've got a plan. I'm going to cut a bigger hole on the top to fit a 120mm exhaust fan up there and also cut a 120mm intake fan on the bottom of the case. In addition, I'll be ordering some modder's mesh, the thin honeycomb kind, and...

I then set it to blow inward and ran...

Which fan slots? I wish I could get a 12cm fan on the back for exhaust, but I see no way to do so =/ I conducted some tests using a 12cm fan. How about Scythe Kama Bay? I'm not sure how I'd use that thing. It looks cool, but there aren't any places at which I could install it. That's a good idea, but I'd never be able to make a box that would look good under this case, unfortunately. If I wasn't so hung up on looks, this project would be far easier. My last PC was one of the typical SPCR silent types where it was just a plain looking box with relatively standard hardware....

I'm willing to attempt the bottom fan mod, but I'd need to find some decent looking taller case feet I think. I wish I knew of anyone else attempting this, but I guess that kinda adds to the fun because it's dangerous and I might ruin a case I've put so much work into.

Well you would need to raise the case slightly, in order to get airflow to the filter. I raised mine about 1.5" with some wood feet. If you cut a hole in the window for a side fan, just how will you attach a filter? A flat filter the size of the fan, is terrible for airflow......much like what you ...

I don't know if the airflow would be so good like that. This case has kinda tiny feet and having to buy big ugly feet might eliminate the point of putting it on the bottom of the case anyway. The case really only sits 1cm off the desk. Would you say it would make any difference, in terms of cooling,...

You may be beating your head on the wall. Those filters on the intake fans are simply too restrictive because of their small surface area. Combine that with their cramped location with poor airflow even without a filter, and you end up with very little air getting into the computer. I doubt a 120mm...
