None of these sites really get quiet, so I'd like to see an SPCR review.

How the heck does a heatpipe work in that arrangement? All that I've played with transport heat from 1 tip to the other, not across the diameter.

Re: Quiet Liquid Cooled Gaming PC Build Guide
Interesting build, MikeC. FWIW, I haven't WCed in years, largely because of pump noise. I also don't run 300W GPUs, so air simply makes more sense these days. It seems that any air bubbles trapped in the system eventually get released in the reservoir. Within a couple of hours of system power on, th...

Re: Prolimatech Panther CPU Cooler
SPCR, do you have any direct comparisons between the 1155 & 1366 platforms? (Can't find any, but maybe it's me...) I understand why compact HSFs have their own category, but I'd prefer seeing an overall hierarchy of performance. That's a lot harder for me to figure out on my own than which coolers f...

Re: 3770K IHS removal and results
1) Thanks for the excellent info!
2) Have you measured the PC's power consumption?
3) Considering the die's shape, I suspect that heatsink orientation could make a difference. If your D14's heatpipes run parallel to the core, the outer pipes might not do much. Would you be willing to test this?

Re: Asrock 775 Heatsink Compatibility Warning
Funny - I now have a Ninja Rev B on there with the pushpins. After installing it, I immediately removed it to check the mount, and it's acceptable. It's tighter to the socket than I'd like, but it beats the stock HSF until I buy a replacement. Your complaint comes through loud & clear, though. I hav...

Asrock 775 Heatsink Compatibility Warning
My new Asrock Z77 Pro4 surprised me when it came time to mount a heatsink. As with other Asrock 1155/1156 mobos, the Pro4 also has 775 mounting holes. I'd hoped to reuse my Xigmatek HDT-S1283 in a new 3570K build. Hoped. The 775 holes are clocked very slightly from the 1155 holes (for obvious reason...

Yes, it's 830VA at 300ishW, so power factor is well below 0.5.
The 555 has 60KuF at 80V. It's a fair bit of energy!

Practical example of power factor
(This doesn't directly involve PC PSUs, but this seems the most reasonable place to post it.) I've been using a borrowed Adcom GFA-555 for a couple weeks & watching it through my Kill-a-Watt. This amp has a pretty sizable power supply, and the KaW has shown some interesting data. The 555 draws about...

Re: Is a i3-2100 good enough for me?
If a 2100 is enough, then the 2500K would hold you for years. It's a shame that Intel doesn't offer a $100 K-model dual... How much RAM does the current system have? If <4GB, I'd probably do a 2120 with 8-16GB & consider an Ivy Bridge in 12-18 months. Look for an SSD deal in January, but a 4GB RAMdi...

...the 65Watt is a TDP rating for a heat-sink type, not a power draw rating. It just means it dissipates 65 watts of power instead of 95watts, but it also implies a more efficient design and should use less power. That's the theory/marketing. Testing shows it's really the same chip with a factory u...

IMO, quiet watercooling is really about 2 things: pump noise & radiator size. These integrated units are seriously lacking in radiator.

A 1x120 radiator can cool 300W, but it will be loud and/or hot. Forget the water for a moment, and imagine cooling your rig with a single 120mm fan. Same deal.
I've never even seen your case, so there's not a lot more I can offer.
Good luck & please let us know your results.

Hell, you can even get premade profiles if the UI software is done right, so you don't even have to bother with the tweaking unless you want to. Exactly. Pick your fans, tell the mobo the temps you want and enjoy the quiet. Existing boards tend to ramp up the fans at ridiculously low temperatures, ...
