v5.0 has been released
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html Finished WU's now go to a 'collection server' if the work server is down. User gets credit for the WU and the work server collects the WU from the collection server when it comes back up. Also, the forceSSE flag has been removed. SSE is always given priorit...

This unit is completely silent (while not running on batteries, of course) but does not provide as much protection as SmartUPS. SmartUPS conditions the power line, filters it and up- or dow...

Samba's documentation definately leaves something to be desired! You mean Linux? I don't have anything useful to add, I just feel the same way about Linux  Point taken :D Though I've found samba to be one of the most frustrating components of my linux system. Samba has the unique ability t...

I hate Samba. For me it just seems to be one of those things where I need to fool around with the config and keep fiddling with it until I mysteriously get it working, and stop right there, afraid to touch it ever again. Probably because I don't know all of what I am doing. I feel the exact same wa...

Welcome to SPCR geost!! This is slightly unpopular here at SPCR, but I like my hitachi 7k250. I found mine mispriced at Fry's and got it at a really good price. I knew about the 'meowing' sound, but other than that its acoustical and benchmark performance is very good. When first plugged in, I did n...

So I have to wait another day to see if it will complete the wu this time or if it's time to do so formatting and reinstalling geordie, you might want to try running cpuburn and memtest before reinstalling. You may have some hardware problems that will surface again after you reinstall. I notice yo...

Well, I decided to try my luck with the new core also. I downloaded the new linux core, stopped the client, renamed the old core, copied over the new one, and restarted the client. Much to my suprise, the beta core deleted my WU! I was 72% done with it! It then downloaded a new WU, deleted that one,...

I think that's the Intel Pro/100+ (EtherExpressPro in 2.4) driver. Not sure though, I couldn't find any more detailed specs than what is on the above website.

right, isn't Fedora supposed to be like Red Hat's unstable/testing branch? still, just because it has all the bleeding edge stuff available doesn't mean you need to use those packages, right? I mean, Gentoo is definately a bleeding edge distro also, but that doesn't mean you need to update your syst...

Basically I've had enough of Fedora as it's not quite what I'm after since using Gentoo and getting used to its emerge command. I haven't used Fedora, but I've been using Gentoo for a year and a half and haven't ever thought of switching to anything else. It's everything I need in a desktop linux d...

if your other boxes are in the same lan, you can use distcc when you install gentoo. This will enable distributed compiling which means that your compiles will be shared among all your boxes. The Gentoo install guide includes a section about using distcc during bootstrap. What do you mean the termin...
